Siddhartha Timed Writting

A scene from the cartoon Tom and Jerry, where Tom saw Jerry’s tail hanging off the side
of the kitchen counter he decided to jump for it not knowing it was a stick of dynamite. Tom’s
cleverness got the best of him, which relates to the theme of the book Siddhartha, written by
Herman Hesse using conflict, character development, and setting, too much cleverness could
send a person into the wrong direction.
The book Siddhartha is about how a boy develops and progresses to the path of
enlightenment, while conquering obstacles he didn’t think we possible. Siddhartha realizes that
he finally needs to stop and think about each path he takes because it will change his whole life.
“Its goal is not to explain the world to those who are thirsty for knowledge. It’s goal is quite
different; it’s goal is salvation from suffering.” In this quote the Buddha, Gotama, tells Siddhartha
about the path to enlightenment, and to “Be on your guard for too much cleverness.” Gotama is
explaining that if he follows the river, he will reach enlightenment, but siddhartha gets too clever
and follows a different path, which doesn’t end up helping him reach enlightenment, but it does
help him realize he needs to listen to the wise Buddha Gotama.
Since Siddhartha didn’t correctly follow the Buddha’s instructions and got into some
trouble, he then slowly learned what he needed to do. Once Siddhartha became older, and
more mature, through suffering and starvation, he developed into a strong young man that is
proving he is almost done with the journey to enlightenment.
Having The river as his guide, Siddhartha finally finished his journey to enlightenment.
Learning almost everything about being a buddhist and how much of a struggle it is to become
one. “Nirvana is not only a word, my friend, it is a thought.” Which ties into the theme too much
cleverness could send a person into the wrong direction.
