Mirth is a platform that connects various HIT systems to create faster, easier, more secure, and
cost-effective interoperable mechanism for exchanging healthcare messages.
To achieve this, Mirth Connect uses a channel-based architecture to connect HIT systems to
filter, transform, and route the messages on user-defined rules.
Healthcare interface engines, also known as healthcare integration engines, solve the problem
of sharing and exchanging data between healthcare applications.
Healthcare standards: HL7v2, v3, CCD/CCDA, CCR , DICOM , X12, Delimited Text, XML, NCPDP,
EDI, Raw ASCII or Binary, FHIR (draft standard)
Databases: MySQL, Oracle, DB2, HyperSQL, MS SQL Server, Postgres
Operating Systems: UNIX/Linux (AIX, Fedora, Ubuntu, CentOS), Windows, OS X
Connection and Protocols: MLLP, TCP/IP, HTTP, Web Services (SOAP), Database, File System,
Email, (S)FTP, JMS etc.
A Mirth channel is an interface that routes, filters, and transforms messages from one source to
