The function of unreliable narrators in Hisaye Yamamoto’s “The Legend of Miss Sasagawara.”

A. Introduction and short story telling

B. A short story written by Hisai Yamomoto, which takes place in the camp at Poston in Arizona
constructed for Japanese-Americans during the World War II. In the center of events is one woman
(Miss Sasagawara, a former ballet dancer) transferred to the camp with her Buddhist father from
another camp after her mother’s death. In the story Miss Sasagawara reveals to be an educated
woman who reads “lots of books” Then she becomes the subject of all gossip and social alienation by
the people of that camp because of her estrangement and strange behavior. The Legend begins with
the description of Miss Sasagawara as a “decorative ingredient”, who wears “arrestingly rich colors”.
Already only the exterior of Miss separated her from the other people of the camp. Furthermore,
even her behavior the way that she walks
