Prologue
In the world where we lived in, power is everything. But not every power was recognize. We are
not your ordinary children. Some may have great talent such as intelligence, beauty, strength.
But us, we are different.
This all started when I was in 6th grade, where my friends and I were hanging out in the park,
when suddenly my friend’s eyes, Casey, turned gold as she stared into space. We looked at her in
awe, not knowing what was happening to her. In an instant, all the street lights around the park
has been lit up turning on and off in the greatest power. We don’t know what was happening, but
we know that it might’ve been something with Casey.
The streetlights broke, Casey started shaking and fell down to the ground, unconscious. As a 6th
grader, we don’t know what to do. Luckily, the police—or should I say military soldiers—have
been scouting the area. They took us in and our friend Casey in their truck, because they said that
they are going to tell our parents what happened.
Greens are the intellectual kids and are safe to approach. Blue are for telekinesis, gold for
electrical powers, and the most unsafe to approach. The reds, fire power, and the oranges, the
mind and telepathy control power. Reds and oranges are mostly, kill on sight.
Chapter One
HALEY
“There’s a frequency test again in the afternoon, you’ll hide in the basement?” she asked, as if it
was a thousand dollar question.
“Of course I’ll hide, they shouldn’t know that I’m not a green.” Yes, I’m not a green. I’m
secretly an orange and been hiding from them for the past 5 years, I’m surprised they didn’t even
noticed.
“How about the plan?” she said in the lowest voice as possible. “Cancel it.”
She looked at me deeply, as if she’s staring right inside me. Eventually she gave up and just let
out a heavy breathe, “Fine, boss.”
“Greens, it’s your frequency test.” A guard called us and was armed by heavy guns and
equipment. We stood up, some nervously looked at the guard, as if they were not here for the
past years. I looked at the guard with a deadpanned look. “I need to go to the bathroom.” I know
it’s a lame excuse, but it works for the past year.
The guard looked at me and smirked, “Ah, Haley, well sorry to tell you but we can’t, this is an
important frequency test and it’s a protocol not to let anyone get out from our sight. There’s been
reports that there is an orange lurking here. You do understand that right?” he said mockingly.
How’d they know that there’s an orange here? Who— never mind? I’ll deal with that later. But
first, I have to get this freaking guard.
My eyes flickered, and in an instant, I feel my eyes turned orange, as I looked into the guard’s
eyes. Instantly, I feel our minds have been connected.
“You will let me use the bathroom, and never to find me again.” I commanded.
“I will let you use the bathroom, and never to find you again.” He repeated. My eyes turned back
to regular color and so as the guard’s eyes. But his mind didn’t change. He walked out the door,
without saying anything.
“I was always left speechless every time you use your skill.” We called our powers “skill.”
“I’ll just go to the basement, see you later.” I bid goodbye and walk out.
“Freeze! Keep your eyes close and stay right where you are. If you anything unnecessary we will
shoot. Again, we will shoot!” a guard with a speaker shouted.
I can fight these guys alone, but I won’t take my chances. Plus, they have a frequency gun.
Frequencies are shitting our minds except for adults because our brain structure is different from
them.
I closed my eyes, put my hands in the air and just stayed where I was standing.
“Fuck this.” As I said that, I heard an uncurling noise in my head, as if it was a scream of a
thousand freed souls. It was mind shattering, like my head was being torn into pieces.
Because of the pain I’m feeling, I passed put immediately, only hearing words like, “an orange,
she’s an orange.”
Chapter two
HALEY
I tried to stretch my hands but apparently, they are cuffed in these walls.
“She’s awake.” I heard someone said on the other side of the door. “Let me in.”
I heard the door opened, and I saw a silhouette of a man who has big muscles and a straight face.
“I’m all tied up, as you can see. You mind taking these off?” I mocked.
“As much as I want to, I won’t. You fooled us enough. For five years, without knowing you’re
an orange. Although I had my suspicions.”
He smirked. “Why ask? You already know by now.” He grin like the devil. “Reds and oranges
are killed on sight.”
He stared at me, with his poker face, judging every part of me. He then walk out the door, with a
loud thud.
I felt my eyes turned into orange, and concentrate to find where Faith and Talon’s consciousness
is.
“Faith.” “Talon.” They can’t respond to me since they aren’t an orange. “Execute the plan. Save
many kids at all cost. I’m at the torture chamber, don’t worry about me. Meet me at the southern
exit.”
My eyes returned to normal. I know that they can do it. They’re my friends after all.
The plan was to make a chaos at the lobby, we have been secretly doing an alliance with the
other kids and come up with a plan to escape. Not as polish as it should be, since we still lacked
time, but we can do it now.
Oh well.
“Hey dipshit!” I called the attention of the guards who are guarding the door.
They didn’t gave a fuck though, so I tried another response. “You bullshit guards who can’t
guard anything!” I mocked then laugh the loudest that I can.
I seem to pissed them off so they opened the door and come inside. “What to do want?”
The other one was already one his gritted teeth, “You better respect us. You’re the one who’s
cuffed and not us. Better watch what you are going to say.”
I smirked. “Oh really? But it’s true isn’t it? I bet you can’t guard me with your eyes close. I
know I can.”
He cupped my jaw. “You stupid son of a bitch, you think you can fool us?”
Heh.
“Well, actually I can.” I said then looked into his eyes, “Warner.”
He stared into space. “Yes, master?” the other guy was shocked and just stood there looking at
us.
“Remove my cuffs.” I ordered. Which he gladly obliged. I wouldn’t say obliged though.
“Warner no!” the other guy tried to pull out a gun but I manipulated his mind faster than him.
“Don’t interfere.” He didn’t.
The Warner guy removed my cuffs as the other guy help me get up.
“Now lock yourself up. You won’t remember anything that happened here. You won’t even
remember me or my existence.” I said as I walked out the door.
FAITH
“Talon!” I shouted as I send chairs and tables flying around these guards. Curse these frequency
gun freaks! “Get to the southern exit!”
“I know. You don’t need to shout.” Talon said while he played with the electricity at the guard’s
side. He’s a yellow so it wouldn’t be a problem for him.
“Hey, where’s Haley?” Ash asked panting, she must’ve been exhausted guiding the other kids to
the exit. She’s a green. “I haven’t seen her since this started?”
“We better hurry. I bet she’s already waiting for us there. Haha.” Dillian said while helping me
send chairs and tables swooshing around.
“We really should, she doesn’t really like waiting.” Lina said while helping Talon.
We are about to retreat when suddenly, a big loud bang was heard coming from the lobby door.
It was Haley.
“You guys go ahead. I’ll take care of these guys.” She smirked that made the shocked guards
tense. Is she that scary? Well, her skill is.
“I won’t leave without you.” Talon retorted with also a deadpanned expression. He’s like Haley
but more serious than and surely not as soft as a marshmallow. Maybe as hard as a chiseled
pillar.
“If you say so.” Haley asked while stepping in, our hands clapped, as if I was switching at a
wrestling match.
They can handle that. They are our leaders after all.
HALEY
“You’re so stubborn. You should have leave with them, you know.” I said while looking at the
guards. Making them to not move a muscle.
“I told you. I won’t leave without you.” He sternly said. I shrugged my shoulders. “Now would
you mind zapping them? Just at the nerve numbing part at the back of the throat so they’ll pass
out.”
He smirked, “I forgot that you’re smart, we should’ve done that 10 minutes ago.”
“Yeah, you should have. Now let’s get this over with.”
While waiting at the southern exit, you can see different face, different skill, and different colors.
But with the same reason to escape. And that is to be free to be with their parents again.
They’re waiting for Haley and Talon when someone shouted, “Are we just going to wait for
them forever? The guards might be finding us now!” the girl cried. It must have been frustration.
They are this close of going out and they aren’t going to waste chance to grab it.
Faiths looked became a glare. So as Ash, Dillian, Lina and the other kids who know Haley.
“You should be thankful that someone is stepping up for something that we should also can do.
You can’t just leave the leader.”
The all looked at the direction where the voice was heard and it was indeed…
“Haley!” Faith and the gang ran up to the two and hugged each other.
“Oh! Sorry!”
She looked at all of the student who they have saved, “Are you all set? Let’s go.”
“Where to?” a guy asked with a blue uniform.
“The mall.”
CHAPTER THREE
HALEY
There may be approximately 50 of us, some are greens, blues, and gold. But there are no reds,
and no oranges. Except for me.
For the past 5 years in the camps, it was an excitement for me to be free again.
We are on our way to a mall, being quiet and stealthy, we can let anyone sees us, now that it is
very hard for us since we are in a large group.
“We’re here.” Lina whispered as she looked into a map she snuck. “Let’s get some supplies.”
THIRD PERSON
The lights of the mall were shut down, it may be due to the fact that no one use the mall they got
to. The yellows help team up and tried to fix the electricity, which they gladly did successfully.
As soon as the lights lit up, the saw the mall filled with clothes, things, foods that they needed.
The started cheering and packed up. Some got to get clothes, some got supplies and food. Others,
specifically Haley and her friends are in a room trying to come up with a plan and where they
should go.
“Yeah, like that would help, as far as I know some adults are afraid of us due to our destructive
skill. It’s impossible for us to ask some random stranger.” Ash explained as her eyes lit up. Using
her intelligence.
“It’s too risky to wander outside without knowing where to go, too.” Lina contributed to the
topic.
“We should just stay here. May be for a couple of nights, until we came up of a plan where will
we go. I’m we’ll come up with something. Right, Haley? Talon?”
Haley, looking into space as if thinking thoroughly replied, “Let’s stay here, may be two days, it
might not be safe if we stay here long.”
HALEY
The kids are having a feast in a food court. I’m glad that we get to save them in spite of what
happened to us. Some of them are only 9 year olds, some are 12. Which are very young to be on
their own. With no parents to guide them now.
“Deep thoughts?” I heard Talon’s voice beside me. “Do you mind sharing it?”
I smirked. “Did you just make a pun?”
I sigh. “Nothing, I was just thinking about my parents. I didn’t even have the chance to talk to
them the last time, it’s been 5 years.”
“I’m sure wherever they are, they’ll be proud of you. You manage to save these kids.”
“Oh don’t be humble, if it wasn’t for you. There was nothing to be planned.”
I smiled at him. Knowing that he’s the one who made the plan with me. But my smile vanished
as I saw a shadow lurking at the back as if it was watching us from a far. As soon as the shadow
noticed I was staring at her, she quickly vanish with her bouncey hair flocking.
“Talon, she might get away. Just gather the kids, don’t let anyone escape from your sight, okay?”
‘Found you.’ I whispered in its mind as I ran towards the second floor.
I ran towards the girl even more, since I was faster. I managed to pin her down the floor. “I said
get back here.” I said in gritted teeth while pinning her down with my own body. “Who are
you?”
She struggled to be out of my grip, which she did. She got up and looked at me in the eye, and I
was surprised what color it is.
“O-orange?”
CHAPTER FOUR
"Im Ruby, Ruby Daley. And I'm an orange." the girl introduced herself and it made me
speechless.
"Haley? What's that, who is it?" Faith came running towards us.
"Hello, I'm Ruby. I see that you have a group and I want to recruit you to the children's league."
She explained what is her motive.
Children's league?
"I understand. And by the way, your name is?" the girl-- ruby trying to know the Faith's name.
Her sight got back at me. "Oh, so your name's Haley." She said. "Shall we start talking?"
We sat down in a flodable chair we founf while Faith calls the others.
"The government was experimenting on us, trying to cure us. Clincy Gray, the son of the
President, was the first test subject. But they didn't cured him. "
We paused.
"The children's League, a league against the government and was composed of different children
are teaming to put the government to the dust. But in order to do it, we must train hard."
"So, why is it taking you so long?"
"Because they have been reports that there was another orange at a different camp. And it was
you, wasn't it?"
I stiffened, "Yes."
She sigh, "Clincy Gray and I have fought for our lives the last time we saw each other, he is an
orange, too. But the bad one." she paused. "Are you a bad one?" She tried to joke.
"You are a skilled orange. How did you learned that? You know, your words and voice in my
head are..."
"Doctor."
"Is it them?"
She hugged me. "Welcome to the children's league. Ready to be even more free, free at the grip
of the government?"
