SandStorms

When the winds blow strongly there is always a chance of a Sand Storm. Sand Storms
on Athrakkus are powerful and deadly. Sand Storms have been known to swallow and
cause entire armies and cities to dissapear under the SandWastes. There are many
types of Sand Storms. The following describes a typical sand storm.
Weather - Sand Storm Strength
When you are caught in a sand storm it is wise to seek shelter. Also wearing
protective gear will help midigate the effects. A typical Sand Storm is 60 miles
wide and 1 mile high. They last for 2d12 hours and a Weather Temperature and Sand
Storm Strength check can be made per hour of Sand Storm.
PC can make a perception or survival check to determine if they notice the storm
and how long until it hits. DC 30 allows 30 minutes until storm hits. Negative 5 to
DC if at night.

Movement and Actions


Wind strength within a typical sandstorm will be 20 to 60 (2d3x10) miles per hour
and visibility is reduced to 10 to 60 (1d6x10) feet. Within areas unprotected from
the storm all ranged weapon attacks are at disadvantage; gas and vapors are
immediately dispersed; candles, torches, and similar unprotect flames are
extinguished; and protected flames, such as those of lanterns, will dance wildly
and have a 50% chance per minute of being blown out. Furthermore, each foot of
movement costs two feet of speed, and this penalty stacks with that for difficult
terrain, causing each foot of movement to cost three feet of speed for characters
exposed to both sandstorms and things like jagged lava fields.
