Rules and Guidelines –

1. Make the presentation precise and to the point, backed with data and charts.(don’t directly copy
paste the charts, rather make them fresh using the data).
2. Originality of the solution will be preferred.
3. No need for the “Intro” and “Thank You” slides.
4. The points mentioned (a, b, c etc.) under each analysis are just guidelines and you can make
changes in it if you think some other point is necessary for analysis, just stick to the slide limits.

Assignment Details –

Select any country (extra points would be given for choosing non-mainstream countries unlike India,
China, US or UK). After choosing the country, the following analysis needs to be done–

1. Analysis of the country (Max 2 slides)

a) Background of the Country
b) Economic and Political Overview (GDP, expected growth in the near future, type of
government, etc.)
c) Trade Policy Overview (Major Imports and Exports commodities & destinations, Major
Trade blocs of which it is part of, Major Trade Agreements of that country, Foreign Trade
Policy outlook, etc.)

2. Identify the largest commodity imported and analyse it (Max 2 slides)

a) Analyse the import pattern-nature of imports of the country.
b) Importance of the commodity
c) Impact on the economy
d) Advantage enjoyed by the chosen country by importing instead of producing domestically
(If not then suggest change in policy)
e) Major trading partners and relationship with them
f) Any recent or expected issue with the import and how it can be resolved.

3. Suggest one potential commodity that India can export to the chosen country (Max 2 slide).
a) India trade data: Import, export, trade deficit over last 5yrs.
b) India’s trade pattern: Nature of goods imported/exported.
c) Salient features of FTP 2015-20.
d) Trade relations of the chosen country with India- (Ex: FTA, RTA or any other agreement).
e) Suggest the commodity India can export to that country with strong reasoning.
