Figure Language is a way of expressing or conveying ideas by taking symbols, figures or likeness.
It is the opposite of literal or direct language.
1. Simile is comparing one thing to another dissimilar thing using like or as.
Examples:
Prince John runs like a horse.
She was as cool as a cucumber under pressure.
I turned as white as a ghost when you jumped out at me.
Bless was as playful as a kitten.
The clouds were like ice-cream castles in the sky.
2. Metaphor is comparing one thing to another different thing as if it were that other thing.
Examples:
Max is a pig when he eats.
That child is a bear when he is sleepy.
The detective listened to her tales with a wooden face.
His cotton candy words did not appeal to her taste.
The computer in the classroom was an old dinosaur.
