Leader as a Coach A psychodynamic approach The traditional notion of leadership as strategy and control from a distance according to a pre-determined plan of action ~ the proverbial leader commanding the troops from a position on the hill overlooking the field of battle worked well, in times when assumptions didn’t change so regularly. In times of rapid change when high levels of complexity and uncertainty are the order of the day, individuals and teams must understand the organization's direction and be empowered to work toward it using their best capabilities and judgments in the moment. In these circumstances, the role of leadership shifts to one of shaping the understanding, development, and learning of team members so they can act both independently and in con- cert with the goals of the whole organization. The leader becomes a coach. To be an effective leader in today’s times, you must be an effective coach. Our “Leader as coach workshop equip you with mindsets and skills need to be an effective coach at workplace. This program helps you build the skills of a coach and apply that effectively in managing and leading your people. Timothy Gallwey who wrote the book Inner Game of Tennis and Inner Game of Work. He mentioned the formula, Performance= Potential- Interference. His books had a huge influence on the coaching profession because coaches help to understand the inner interferences and ways of increasing our potential. Mostly the explorations of the inner world was limited at the conscious level without really diving into the interferences arising from the unconscious. Leader's needs arising from the unconscious, like "being in control’, “competitiveness”, "Trust issues” etc are only dealt with, ifthe client consciously become aware of them and bring them up for discussion. Coaches are not supposed take clients into the past and analyze the carly childhood influences and impact as that would fall in Therapy. Most coach training was rooted on our ability to give meaning and create purpose, and assume that as a healthy individual, clients take accountability. But definition of healthy can be misleading. “show me a sane individual, I will cure him for you" Carl Jung said So we think a psychodynamic approach focusing on the interferences from Unconscious is also needed now. 0D Alternatives | www.odaltematives.com on Participants of your workshop will Organizational benefits include: be better able to: © Achieving professional level coaching in a ¢ Understand the meaning of High-performance cost-effective approach. coaching Building a consistent approach to coach- © Identify the qualities of an effective Leader ing and performance improvement Coach. throughout the organization. @ Recognize their unique strengths as a coach ¢ Increasing managerial capability to lead and how these can be effectively used in their and drive change through focused organi- coaching role. zational coaching. © Participate in the personal growth of others ¢ Encouraging greater accountability and while developing high performance coaching accelerating the achievement of business skills. goals. © Achieve significant business results by coach- Building a coaching and growth culture ing in areas that can provide the most impact across the organization and leverage for the organization © Challenge others to hold themselves accountable for results.
