HOMEWORK’S PURPOSE

Homework, school work given to students to complete at home, as it is stated in its

name. It is to fulfill the purpose of helping with the subject of matter. Homework teaches

a student to become independent in their studies, and allows them to use their own

resources to accomplish the work. It is essentially up to the teachers to assign the

amount of work they deem suitable for each of the students.

There is an ongoing debate, arguing the benefits of homework- the pros and cons. It

has been stated on both opposing and supporting sides that a hefty amount of time is

taken out of a students day, outside of the classroom. For high school students,

homework is given in each of their classes- some who participate in after school

activities. Too much homework can

hinder the wanting to do the actual

work, cause stress and frustration,

take away from the time they have

to do the activities they love. All of

which are not beneficial to students.

In opposition to the previous statements, there are some advantages to homework. It

does teach time management, allows parents to follow along with their child’s

progression in subjects, builds independence, and sometimes helps with attention

spans.

So there are advantages, but the purpose

of homework is not to overwhelm students and

a lot of times that is the effect of homework. It

is important not give too much homework due

in too little time. This can lead to a decrease in

the attention students give to learning the

subject in class, and an increase of dropping grades due to lack of sleep and stress,

which is common in high school students.

Being a student, it is crucial for test grades and overall grades

to be up to par, so that colleges will accept them. Homework is

beneficial to students if it is handled as something that should be

beneficial. Instead of making the homework purposely hard,

difficult to complete. The way the assignments are given could be

changed. Although it is not agreed by the entire educational

community, it can be otherwise proven that homecan can indeed be beneficial to

students as well as parents and guardians who want to be apart of their child’s learning

experience. Homework’s Purpose has many aspects, it’s just about how to go about

those aspects.
