They are used to measure and Controliiqud level, specific gravity and liquid. intertace, ‘All12000 Series liquid eve! controlinstruments oper- ateby Arctimedes' Principle: when a body is partly ‘or completely immersed in any liquid, it loses weight. equal tothe weight of the iquid displaced. The instruments use a displacer attached to a torque tube assembly, which provides a smpie and accu: rate means of ransmiting motion from the dispiacer to tho control mechanism. “The cisplacer is always heavier than the liquid dis- placod at fullimmersion. Aithough the dieplacer rises ‘and falls with level changes. its mavementis sub- stantialy less than the actval level movement. The difference in movement between cisplacer and liquid level is dependent on the Goss-sectional areaot me displace, the specific gravty of the liquid and the stitfness of the torque tube. Levelranges of froma tewincnes to several feet can be cbtaned by varying thecross-sectional area and length of aisplacer. {© 1990 Masoneilan Neth American Operations All ights reserved, Construction SD.CU7000 Rev. B 3:80 12000 Seles Displacer ‘Standard displacers are made of AISI Type 316 ‘taleless steal tubieg and selected 20 hat etan- {dard control mechanisms can be used, wihout ‘modtication, for all ranges. Monel, Hesteloy 8 © C, Durimet 20, copper and solid Teton’, etc, ate also availabe, ‘The Torque Tube Assembly ‘The Torque Tube Assembly isso designed that it ‘provides a simple and acourate means of transmit ‘tng motion from the displacer tothe control mech- ‘anism. The torque tube isthe torsion spring of the level measuring system, designed to provide the ‘most desirable combination of oad carrying ability ‘nd low operating stress. The torque tube, torque ‘uberod, bushing, torque arm block and housing ‘extension are made of a single alloy welded together to form an integral uri. ‘Chamber Assembly ‘The chamber assembly has been designed for ‘compactness and ight weight to faciltate handling ‘and installation. The lower part of the assembly (cisplacer chamber houses the displacer, while the upper chamber (mechenism chamber) houses the * DuPont sRegstord Tadomark Knite-Eage Bearng Integral ‘Mocharism Chamber torque arm and serves to connect the displacer ‘chamber to the torque tube housing. Where top ‘and bottom connections are desired, upper and lower chambers are an integral unt, since top and ‘bottom connections permitinsialltion with instru- 'mentin eny desred position relative to the vessel. ‘Steel and alloy chambers with one or more side Connections are available with a mid-flange (ANS! (Class 600) permitting field orientation of instru- ‘ment to the vessel. Side connected mode's are ‘iso availabe wth integral chambers 12000\V Series), Hanger ang Stop ‘The hanger provides a simple yet reliable attach- ‘ment ofthe dispiacer to the torque arm while keeo- ing friction to a minimum, Hanger Extension Integral or detachable extensions are available for all controllers wih internally mounted displacers. ‘They can be supplied in any length upto 5 feet, using 2/6" diameter sold rod. Other lengths are possible with an appropriate length of cable.
