REFLECTION

Having the familiarization was really a good start to experience how it feels to be in a
work place.

In my case, I was fortunate enough to have my familiarization at MV ACX CRYSTAL


Ship, even in just a short span of time had really opened my eyes on how fun at the
same time, stressful to be working onboardship.

During our discussion with 3/O Lino V. Pastoral I learned a lot like the devices to be
seen at Bridge such as Echo Sounder, Bow Thruster, EPIRB, SOPEP (Shipboard Oil
Pollution Emergency, EEBD ( Emergency Escape Breathing Device, Battery Room
generally use for communication and radio, Life Craft, Fire Extinguisher and Life
Buoy Ring. Echo Sounder is a device use to determined the depth of water from the
seabed. Bow Thruster is use to maneuver the ship. EPIRB an emergency position
indicating radio beacon, to alert search and rescue services in case of emergency.
We need to be aware of important safety procedures and the exact location of the
rescue boat, fire fighting equipment there are different types of fire extinguisher and
the life buoy ring during an emergency situations. SART also means Search and
Rescue Transponder is a marine navigation device used on the ship during the time
of emergency.

In air conditioning room I learned how to convert cold air to hot air and also I’ve
learned the function and use Equipments of Main engine such as Boiler, Jacket
Water Cooling System, Incinerator, Purifier, Centrifugal Pump, Main Air Compressor,
the color coding of piping and Sewage Treatment Plant.

In addition, I’ve learned also how to use and the function of the different button inside
the Engine Room. MGPS or Marine Growth Protection System and MGPD Marine
Growth Protection Device. It consists of alloy and copper that when sodium chloride
(Sea Water) passes to the Cathode and Anode which is electrically charged it
composition will change Chlorine. We must reduce the chlorine to protect the sea
creatures. Aside from that I also saw Cylinder head and workshop.

To sum it all up, I am glad for another experiences that I will treasure the most. I
would like express my deepest thanks to Splash Philippines INC. , TST, to Chief
Engineer Eduardo Tolentino, 2/ Engineer Jerome Alvin S. De Leon, 3/Engineer Joe
Derrick Adriano and MV ACX Crystal Crew for allowing me to experienced new
things that would help in the future.
