Teacher Name: Caroline Humphrey

Name of Lesson: Understanding Psychological Research Methods

Curriculum Framework Content Name: Perspectives and Research

Number: PR.2.P.1
Description: Analyze methods for collecting data in the field of psychology

Learning Objective:
The learners will be able to…
• Compare and contrast the different types of psychology research methods
• Recognize and comprehend what the scientific method is and its steps
• Identify the newly introduced research vocabulary
• Be able to read and identify a psychological research experiment and label all
of its parts

Learning Activities:
The students will walk into class and I will have their desks placed into groups of
three or 4. I will then hand out the graphic organizer they should fill out while watching
the Teacher Tube video. While watching the video: Crash Course Psychology Research
Methods, I will pause the video when needed so the students can have an easier time
filling out the graphic organizer, as well as adding any extra notes they may want. The
video will describe and explain the different psychology research methods as well as give
real life scenarios to help the students understand the concepts more. The video will also
highlight many different vocabulary terms needed to understand, identify, and label a
psychology research experiment. Following the video, each group of students will receive
a different psychology research experiment and have to use their graphic organizer notes
to identify and label all of the experiments parts.

Assessment/Evaluation:
The students will be evaluated on how well they understand the basics of
psychology research methods by two things, the graphic organizer and identifying the
research experiment. The graphic organizer will have six questions all relating to things
focused on in the video, as well as extra room for notes if they may need. Next, the
students will be evaluated on how well they do on reading, identifying, and labeling the
correct terms throughout the research experiment.
