children born in that particular year.

Q1.What is the criterion used by the UNDP for classifying countries?

Ans. Development goals and aspirations for these farmers are different.

1 landless rural laboures: they would like to have more day work, better wages and not social
discrimination etc.

2-prosperous farmers: they should assurance of high family income through higher support price for
their crops through hardworking and cheap labours.

3- farmers who depend only on rains: these kind of farmers main goals is to have irrigation facilities crop
insurances on less premium and better facilities of life for them as well as their.

Q2 What is the criterion used by the UNDP for classifying countries?

Ans. UNDP has used the criterion of human development index to measure the development of
countries .HDI is calculate on the basis of:

1-Per capita income: when total income of country divided by total population of country is called per
capita income.

2-Life expectancy: it measure the average age of a persons in a country .

3- Gross enrollment ratio: it measure the education gained at three levels – at the primary, secondary
and higher education level.

Q3. What is main criterion used by the World Bank in classifying countries? What are the limitations of
this criterion ,if any?

Ans. The main criterion used by the world bank in classifying different countries is average per capita
income . the countries with per capita income of Rs.453000 per annum and above in 2004 are

considered as rich countries where as countries with per capita income of Rs.37000 or less are
considered as low income countries.

Q4. In the respects is the criterion used by the UNDP for measuring development different from the one
used by the world bank?

Ans. UNDP: has taken Education ,health, and per capita income as the basis.

2-countries have been ranked.

3-it also considered as a broader concept.

2- 2-narrow concept
3- Divided countries three parts –rich, middle and poor

Q.1 “The earth has enough resources to meet the needs of all but not enough to satisfy the greed of
even one person”. How is this statement relevant to the development?

Ans. 1. Nature has bestowed us with abundance of natural resources.

2. If we utilize these resource wisely, these are enough for all the living beings on this earth

3. However all such resources should be utilized equally by all the human beings living on this earth

4. But if you people are greedy and try to accumulate such resources in their own hands then such
resources become scarce even for a few.

5. It means development is only possible if available natural resources are utilized in right direction
