Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Microsoft PowerPoint and this lesson supports UDL in the following ways:
• Supports visual and auditory learners with the video and images.
• Students that have learning disabilities or ELL can watch the video as many times as they need to help
them understand the content that is being addressed.
• Text can be displayed in different ways such as size, color, highlighted, bolded, etc.
• Information can be arranged in different ways using different layouts.
Lesson idea implementation:
The teacher will begin the lesson by asking the students to count from zero to 20 and write the numbers they
know on a piece of paper. Then the teacher will explain to the students that knowing how to count is not
enough, that they have to know how to represent that number with objects. The teacher will play the
completed Numbers PowerPoint book that includes narration. The teacher will then explain to the students
that they will be making a similar book like the one that was shown, representing a number of objects with
written numbers. The teacher will model how to create the PowerPoint book and the students will follow
along.

Once the students have had a chance to practice, they will begin the process. Students will be paired up and
have a choice of what objects they want to use to represent the numbers. Students will need to find images
on clipart from PowerPoint that represents the numbers. This project will take more than one day to
complete therefore if the students do not finish in the time given, it will be alright. The students will not have
to write text to the book. It will just be the numbers and the objects that go with the number. Once the
students are done, their PowerPoints will be saved, and the teacher will use the students PowerPoints
throughout the year for practice.
Reflective Practice:
To extend the lesson to a higher LoTi lever, students will go back to their PowerPoint and take turns with their
partner recording themselves saying the number and counting the objects. Then once that is complete, they
will be saved and created into a movie and published on the classroom’s website for parent and students to
go back to watch and practice.
