AWATIONAL AVID DEMONSTRATION SCHOOL
May 20, 2019
‘To Whom it May Concern,
Over the past semester I have had the privilege of working with Jazmin Angulo as her mentor
teacher at Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo High School. I was able to observe her pedagogy,
professionalism as well as her strengths as a twenty-first century history teacher. Within that
time frame, Jazmin taught tenth and eleventh grade history, participated in school activities
and developed professional relationships with students and staff.
During her time at Cabrillo, Jazmin has more than met the expectations and requirements of
a student teacher. She developed rigorous lesson plans, maintained classroom management
and helped develop 21* century learners by utilizing various forms of technology. Jazmin
purposefully challenges her students to think at a higher level by requiring them to grapple
with primary source text, constantly requiring them to think as historians. Her excellent
knowledge base of history is a strength which will drive her teaching.
Additionally, Ms, Angulo built professional relationships with students by greeting them at
the door, engaging in conversations about their interests outside of the classroom and
connecting their personal experiences to history. She efficiently maintained an inclusive
environment while challenging her students to strive for higher goals. Ms. Angulo effectively
held her students accountable for their actions while encouraging them to be and do better:
Having said all of that, I highly recommend Jazmin Angulo for a teaching position without
hesitation. She is by far one of the best student teachers that | have had the pleasure of
observing, Her use of historical thinking skills and rigorous lessons often exceed that of
current teachers. Simply put, Jazmin Angulo is an exceptional teacher and it would be a loss
for any district to overlook her capabilities.
Sincerely,

To Whom It May Concern:
It is a great pleasure for me to write this letter of recommendation for Jazmine
Angulo and her application for a teaching position in the Long Beach Unified School
District. I met Jazmine in January 2019 when I was assigned to be her University
Supervisor at California State University Long Beach. She was also assigned to my
section of EDSS 473, the Student Teaching Seminar for History that same
semester. This proved to be very beneficial. I had continuous contact with her,
and we were able discuss curriculum, instruction and management issues as they
arose.
During my observations Jazmine utilized many different instructional strategies. T
saw high school students using primary and secondary sources. I observed lessons
where academic conversations were taking place at a high level. She frequently
incorporated writing into lessons and held her students to very high expectations.
Jazmine has an excellent working knowledge of the history standards and the
Common Core Literacy Standards and I can honestly say they were included in all
lessons and units. Jazmine's use of technology to engage her students is excellent.
She was able to find that one powerful image or that one documentary that
demonstrated to her class the importance of the historical event. Students used
technology for research projects and were always given the choice to use
technology for their classroom presentations.
After classroom observations we would meet and discuss the day's lesson. Jazmine
always knew what she would do to make the lesson even more effective. You willlearn that she is a reflective person and I know this will serve her well in her
career,
T think one of Jazmine's strongest assets are the relationships she has built with
her students, With rules and procedures in place, her classroom is one of respect.
Her students care about her and she cares about them, She knows she wants to be
a teacher and she knows exactly what kind of teacher she wants to be. Everything
she learned this semester helped her hone her skills and will help her be a very
effective teacher, In this day of Common Core, Smarter Balance, and Twenty-First
Century classrooms I can assure you Jazmine is ready,
In the twenty years I have been working with student teachers Jazmine is one of
the best! If she is selected for a position in LBUSD you will have a teacher who is
an asset to a faculty and the school community, If you have any questions or need
additional information you can contact me at 562 506-6046 or
