Geometrical constructions

Circle: circle is a two dimensional closedfugure.

• It is the set of all points in a plane that are
given distance from a given point. The point is
centre.Equivalantly the curve traced out by a
point that moves so that its distance from a
given point is costant.
Geometrical constructions
• Definitions or terms related to circle:
• Radius
• Diameter
• Circumference
• Chord
• Arc
• sector
• Tangent
• RADIUS:
• Radius of a circle is defines as any of the line
joined from its centre to circumference.
Geometrical constructions
RADIUS:

Radius is denoted by ‘r’

Diameter:Diameter of a circle is any straight line segment
that passes through the centre of the circle and whose
end points lie on the circle.
Geometrical constructions
• It can also be defined as the longes chord of a
circle.

• It is denoted by ‘d’
• Formula: 2r
where r is radius of the circle
Geometrical constructions
Circumference:
• the circumference of a circle means the
distance around it. i.e., the circumrerence
would be the length of a circle if it is opend up
and straightend to a line segment.
• Formula is 2πr
• r is radius
• Π value is 3.14
Geometrical constructions
Chord: chord of a circle is a straight line segment
whose end points both lie on the circle. (Or)
chord is a line segment join any two points on
the curve.
Geometrical constructions
Arc:arc is a part of a curve especially arc is a part
of a circumference of the circle.

Arc can be observed as 1. major arc 2. minor arc

Geometrical constructions
Sector: circle sector is a portion of a circle
enclosd by two radii and one arc.here the
smallersector is called minor sector, larger
sector is major sector.

Minor sector

Major sector
Geometrical constructions
• Tangents: a line which touches a circle or
ellipse at just one point.
• The radius of the point of tangency is always
perpendicular to the tangent line.
