Q1 A manufacturer makes three different types of chemical products: A, B. and C. Each product must go
through two processing machines: X and Y. The products require the following times in machines X and
Y:

I. One ton of A requires 2 hours in machine X and 2 hours in machine Y.

2. One ton of B requires 3 hours in machine X and 2 hours in machine Y.

3. One ton of C requires 4 hours in machine X and 3 hours in machine Y.

Machine X is available 80 hours per week and machine Y is available 60 hours per week. Since
management does not want to keep the expensive machines X and Y idle, it would like 10 know how
many tons of each product to make so that the machines are fully utilized. It is assumed that the
manufacturer can sell as much of the products as is made.

Q2 Students are buying books for the new semester. Asma buys the linear algebra book and the
differential equation book for $178. Aiman, who is buying books for herself and her friend, spends $319
on two linear algebra books, one differential equation book, and one educational psychology book. Sara
buys the educational psychology book and the differential equation book for $147 in total. How much
does each book cost?

Q3 If you sell two cows and five sheep and you buy 13 hens, you gain 1,000 coins. If you sell three cows
and three hens and buy nine sheep, you break even. If you sell six sheep and eight hens and you buy five
cows, you lose 600 coins. What is the price of a cow, a sheep, and a hen, respectively?

Q4 An oil refinery produces low sulfur and high sulfur fuel. Each ton of low-sulfur fuel requires 5 minutes
in the blending plant and 4 minutes in the refining plant: each ton of high sulfur fuel require; 4 minutes
in the blending plant and 2 minutes in the refining plant. If the blend plant is available for 3 hours and
the refining plant is available for 2 hours. How many tons of each type of fuel should be manufactured
so that the plants are fully used?

Q6 Kyle is getting some flowers for Olivia, his Valentine. Being of a precise analytical mind, he plans to
spend exactly $24 on a bunch of exactly two dozen flowers. At the flower market they have lilies ($3
each), roses ($2 each), and daisies ($0.50 each). Kyle knows that Olivia loves lilies; what is he to do?
