Period 1 - Math (8:00-8:52)

- Announcements (until ~8:08)

- Math Centers (each center will be 10 mins)
- Center #1 = Money (Ms. Rives)
- Starting Group: Juan, Emma, Llesica
- Writing Money as Decimals worksheet
- For Group Levels 2, 3, and 4 go over the different value amounts for the coins.
Practice adding amounts like 2 quarters and 3 dimes. For each question, have
one student be the calculator holder where they add the money amounts. This
might take up the whole time, but if not, then move on to playing money bingo.
- For Group Level 1, spend the whole time going over the different value amounts
and quizzing them on how much each coin is worth and what happens when you
add the coins together.
- Center #2 = Time (Ms. K)
- Starting Group: Oscar, Jazmin, Alex G
- For Group Levels 2, 3, and 4 play Telling Time Bingo with the kids. They might
need a refresher beforehand so use one of the mini clocks to remind them of how
big hand = minutes and little hand = hours. Have them practice counting by 5s for
each of the numbers. Do a few practice problems and have them try to solve
easy times (ex. 9:30 or 8:00) then try to do a harder one (ex. 5:17). After the
refresher, start playing the telling time bingo and keep going until stations switch.
- Group Level 1 doesn’t know how to use clocks or struggles (except Gabriel). For
this group, you will use the plastic mini clocks and go over the o’clocks (ex. 5:00,
6:00, etc) and have them each volunteer to answer a time. They will probably get
confused between the minutes and hour hands so continue to reinforce the
difference. Once they get this, move on to the half hours (ex. 4:30, 7:30) and
have them volunteer answering those as well. Practice counting by 5s with them -
they might struggle with this, so continue doing it. If you have time (and if they
are ready), you can start using the flashcards and quizzing them on times.
- Center #3 = Math Facts (Jenny)
- Starting Group: Alex A, Salvador, Israel
- For the first 2 minutes, give them the math facts quiz. For the group with Oscar,
Jazmin & Alex G give them the adding doubles quiz. For the other groups, give
them the adding 1 quiz.
- After the quiz, go over all the answers together as a group. If they struggled with
some problems, remind them to start with the big number in their head and then
use their fingers to count on.
- For the rest of the time, use the addition flashcards. Most groups can handle it as
a competition. Remind them that whoever gets the most cards will get a sticker to
add to the chart.
- Center #4 = Free Time
- Starting Group: Johnathan, Katheryn, Gabriel, Diego
- At this center, the group can have free time, but they must be sitting at the table
and quiet during this time. They can color, play with puddy, go on their laptops, or
do any other quiet activity.
Brunch (8:52-9:12)

Period 2 - Reading (9:14-10:02)

- Morning Meeting
- Mind Yeti
- Today I feel
- Question of the day
- Motor Skills Stations
- Blocks
- Magnets
- Puzzles
- Drawing/Beads/Bracelets
Period 3 & 4 - SS & WINN (10:04-11:42)
- Reading Centers (each center will be 13 minutes; start centers @ 10:30)
- Center #1 = Writing Sentences (Ms. Rives)
- Starting Group: Diego, Katheryn, Johnathan
- Using the pictures, have the students choose one picture to write about. Based
on the picture, the group will come up with 10 sentences about what’s happening
in the picture.
- For this station, students will focus on writing their own sentences. Come up with
a topic as a group that you will write sentences about. For example, the topic
could be football, dogs, or anything that they can agree on. Each student will take
their turn coming up with a sentence about the topic. Once they say the complete
sentence, have everyone write it down. The sentences don’t have to be serious,
but make sure that when they say the sentence out loud, that they are using
correct grammar and make any corrections to their sentence - along with
explaining why you made the correction (ex. If they say “I were running” tell them
that when you are talking about one person, you use “was” but when talking
about many people you use “were”). Keep writing sentences about the topic until
they get bored, then you can come up with another topic to write about.
- Center #2 = Vocab Ring (Ms. K)
- Starting Group: Alex A, Llesica
- Continue to focus on writing the 5 words on putting them on the ring. We can
start the vocab packets later on in the week once they finish writing the cards.
- For this station, students will work on memorizing their new vocab words. Give
them each 5 circles and a ring. On each circle, they will write the word on one
side and draw a picture of that word on the other side. Along with this, they will
write the word and definition in their vocab packet. Hand out and collect the
vocab packets after each group. They will take the rings home with them to
practice. Go over the words, and if you have time after they’ve written everything
down, practice going over the words together as a group. The focus is on
knowing the words and being able to read them, rather than being able to spell
them.
- Center #3 = Sight Word Jenga (Jenny)
- Starting Group: Jazmin, Gabriel, Israel
- For this station, students will play Jenga and each time they pull out a block, they
need to read one of the words on the block before placing it at the top of the
tower. The color word they read will be based on their reading level. Before
starting each session, let the kids know what color words they will be reading (ex.
“You guys will be focusing on reading the red words”).
- Red = low group (D, K, J)
- Green = mid groups
- Purple = high group (E, O)
- Center #4 = Reader’s Corner (Ms. G)
- Starting Group: Juan, Salvador
- Complete the worksheets for each group. Have the students each get a chance
to read the passage/story. After each student reads the passage, try to answer
the questions together as a group.
- Once they finish the worksheet, if there’s time, have each student choose a book
and read it. Continue reading the same books until they read it completely with
no errors.
- Center #5 = Free Time
- Starting Group: Oscar, Emma
- At this center, the group can have free time, but they must be sitting at the table
and quiet during this time. They can color, play with puddy, go on their laptops, or
do any other quiet activity.
