Purpose 4, The purpose of this manual is to provide guidelines for corrosion control measures in the design and operations of faciities under the jurisdiction of the Royal Commission in Jubail and Yanbu Industrial Cities. These guidelines are aimed at providing useful information to be Incorporated during design, ‘selection of materials and corrosicn contral methods, and other related design aspects. B. Scope 4. The Manual provides guidance for selecting adequate design criteria and corfosion control measures to minimize corrosion. Design criteria guidelines fare provided in order to promote high level of design quality, as well as Uniformity of practices. The Manual-is confined to reinforced concrete and metal structures, piping end equipment exposed to atmospheric, soil, ‘groundwater, and marine environments. Typical examples of structures equiting cortosion protection measures are: a) Storage Tanks and Piping 1) Intemel and external exposure. b) Stee! Structures 1) Above and below ground level exposure. ©) Marine Structures 4) Exposed to tidal fluctuations, splash, or immersed in seawater. 4) Concrete and Steel Storage Tanks 4) Internal and external exposure. 2. . The, most common corrosion control methods, appropriate, materials. and application requirementé are discussed in this Manual. Recommended design considerations, and corrosion control methods for specific systems, are also provided, 3, A"Design Review Checklist” is included in the Appendix. The checklist may be applied to all design corrosion control reviews. 412,02 REFERENCES ‘A. Codes and Standards 4, The referred codes and standards are Intended to provide an acceptable level of quality for materials and products. Alternative codes and standards may be Used provided a prior approval is obtained from Royal Commission. 2) The Royal Commission Issued Corrosion Related Documents. Revo 42-1
