Diabetes is a complex chronic disease that requires continuous medical care with a
multifactorial risk reduction strategy that is beyond disease control. The most common
problem experienced by people with diabetes mellitus in Indonesia is the lack of
knowledge and understanding regarding of medicine and everything related to their
treatment so that frequent blood sugar control failure occurs. The non-compliance of
patients in the use of medicine as well as the lack of information provided by health
workers is one of the causes of therapeutic failure. Education for DM patients is one of
the pillars in the management of diabetes mellitus. One form of education that can be
given to DM patients is to educate using bythe media of booklets. Booklet is a mass
media that aims to disseminate information by script and pictures. This research is a type
of quasi-experimental research. The sample consisted of 20 respondents of the control
group who were treated in the form of standard information and 20 respondents of the
treatment group who were treated in the form of standard information and booklets. The
results showed differences in the level of adherence in the control and treatment groups.
Patient compliance is visible from the MMAS-8 questionnaire score. In the control group
there were 3 respondents who had high compliance, 11 respondents were medium
compliance and 6 respondents had low compliance. Whereas in the treatment group there
were 15 respondents with high compliance, 5 respondents with medium compliance and 0
respondents with low compliance. To see the correlation between blood glucose levels
and MMAS-8 scores, the correlation test was performed, namely the Spearman test. The
results showed a significant relation (p> 0.05) of giving booklet education with adherence
to taking medicine for type 2 DM patients at Pauskesmas Kemaraya Kendari City.
