STANDARD SYMONS CONE CRUSHER
APPLICATION INFORMATION
The Symone Standard cone orushor
normally applied ae @ socondary crusher
in plants designed for three or four
stages of crushing. However, the wide
range of crushing cavities available in
the Standard cone erushor pormite
inctallation asa primary crusherin many
cases, Tho feed operings avaliable
range from over 18" in the 7 Ft. crusher
‘iz0 to 4” in the 2 Ft. Standard. The
Standard cona uaually operates In an
‘open circuit, preparing feed for the
finishing erushing stages where Short
Head cones and Gyradise crush
‘employed. The normal operating range
tor the Standard cone is to make @
crushed product ranging from
approximately 3/4" to 3" of 4. It
considered eound crushing practice to
effect @ reduction ratio of 8 or 8:1
when operating in open circut.
‘Standard cones may also be operated in
8 closed circuit in large or smal
‘operations where a eingle reduction
required. Bacause of the wide renge of
covtios available feed sizes up to 12"
can be raduced in some cases to al
passing 3/4" in a proporty designed
loged eiruit,
‘Standard cone rushers are builtin
‘seven sizes with crushing heads from
{wo to ton foot in ameter. Cenecit
in opan circuit range from 18 to ovat
3000 tph depending on the
characteristics of tha material boing
crushed, orushor size and setting, end
crushing cavity desian,
Operating Recommendations
‘The feed to the Standard cone ie
normally soalped if over 25 percent of
the desired crusher product is present in
‘the new fed. Since the range of faed
‘ize wil often vary trom appreximataly
12" to 2" in a given installation the
‘rushing cavity must be selected to
reduce these sizes efficiently. Where
‘the topsize af tho feed is only 8” the
‘rushing eavity would be modified to
tafloct this emaller feed size. To meet
those voriatione in size of food and
desired product size Standard cones can,
be equipped with various designs of
fine, medium, coarse, of extra coarse
crushing cavities
In solocting the crushing cavity care ia
taken to obtain a design that will permit
the topsize of the feed to enter the
crusher sufficient velume throughout
the entire wear life of the tinors. Since
‘the most efficient erushing notion takos
place when tho feed is reduced in @
ferles of 4 of & blows a9 it passes
through the cavity, it becamos
Important to select a design that wil
ftfect some reduetion in the upper
portion of the cavity as wall os the
lower or peralll sizing zone. In othor
words, too large an opening forthe feed
vill prevent crushing in the upper zonos
‘and can develop axcessivepewer draw.
‘Since the crusher food rata ie governed
by the power draw, an incorrect cavity
‘een reduce the crusher pacity and, on
occasion, create unnecessary
‘maintonance. On the other har, i the
‘cevty will only accept the feed when
‘thaliners are new but asthe liners wear
the food opering closes off reducing the
foed rate, a moro efficient cavity is
aquired. Since no two oros or erushing
‘epplications are exactly the sama, 2
large umber of cavity dasigns have
become available through the years.
‘Thorafore, the optimum in cavity design
is one which permits closo to the rated
‘power draw throughout the entire wear
lite end results in a scrap loss between,
25 and 40 percent.
(APPLICATION
With the proper cavity design,
‘maximum eficioney will be obteined if
the feod is evenly distributed around
the entire crushing cavity. Normally,

required to have a receiving opening

portion of the feed. For best results

‘capacity will be obtained under these
conditions when cavity design and

observed.
SHORT HEAD SYMONS CONE CRUSHER
APPLICATION INFORMATION
The Short Head cone crusher is
normally applied ag a thd etogo
crushor in plante designed for threo or
tour stages of crushing. However
wide range of crushing ca
available in the Short Head cone
crusher permits its installation as. a
‘secondary crusher in many cages. The
‘normal operating renge for the Short
Head cone crusher is to make a
‘rushed product ranging from /8" to 1
Inclosed circuit. It is considered sound
‘rushing practice to offect @ reduction
ratio of approximately 4 of 6:1 in the
‘Short Head crusher stage. Short Head
cones may also be operated in open
circuit where unusual screening and
plant design conditions exist. Whore
extramoly fine products are required,
tho Shart Head cone prepares the food
for the Gytadise crushor eircult where
product sizes as fine as 20 mesh are
reduced.
Operating Recommendations
