Reflection about Adolescent Health Issues

Back in 2005, the Philippines had spotted the top 3 for the world’s most populated countries.
Then 6 years later, It topped first place in the board.

But It’s not something to be proud of, and in fact, needs to be controlled.

Though we did drop at 7th, it’s not relievable; we still have more than 100 million people to live
with in the country; that could lead to certain problems like:

- Poverty
- Crime rate increase
- Unemployment rate increase

And many more…

So what’s causing this? There are several factors like: reduced mortality rate, better
healthcare, etc… But in our country, our main source of the problem is usually the lack of
education to either sex or family planning, leading to Early Pregnancy.

As an adolescent, it’s quite common to have the feeling of wanting to take risks, especially
knowing how to perform sex. Though it’s important to know what things are supposed to be
risked for, whether is it something good or something bad… This is where the parent’s guidance
comes in.

If the parent’s relationship to the adolescent isn’t that great , then there’s already a high
chance of the adolescent feeling rebellious towards his/her parent due to lack of supervision
and guidance.

If left out, it could lead to such habits such as:

- Smoking
- Drinking
- Drug abuse
- Sexual act
- Violence

And either one of these always leads to trouble, including early sexual actions, in which of
course leads to possible early pregnancy..

In conclusion, the Philippine adolescent needs more guidance and discipline. The government
must implement Sexual Educaton and Family planning more to the whole adolescence, about
what are the pros and cons of each situation.
