Procedure

Turn on the pumps. Out of three pumps, pump number 1 and 2 is turned on. Pump
number 3 stays as auxiliary pump. Each pump is set at 40 strokes , which make it total of 80
strokes. Carefully adjust the strokes. Then turn on the top drive and we increased the RPM until
60. Turn on the draw works to lower the drill string and the drum clutch is set at ‘out’. The
driller brake is pulled up and the drilling process began.
We checked the metre of the pit gain, in order to detect the kick. After a certain amount
of time, a slight pit gain is detected. We had to stop the whole drilling process and shut in the
well. The drum clutch is set back to ‘in’, driller brake ‘down’, and then ‘up’. Then the draw
work and the top drive was turned off.
The drill was still hanging with the purpose of cooling down the bit , and to avoid the
pipe being stuck due to the cuttings. After that, we closed the annular of the BOP and then after
closing the annular, we opened the choke line to direct the gas to the degasser.
From the pit gain value, we had the pit deviation. Then we turned in the pump again.
This time only with 20 strokes. If the drill pipe pressure is greater than the casing pressure, we
have to stop the operation and have to wait for the pressure to settle down, since there is a high
possibility to occur the differential sticking phenomenon. We took the gauge reading while
decreasing.
We then calculated the new mud weight from the previous kick data. And then we
started the operation again.
