Press Conference: Opening Statement

Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you all very much for giving us the opportunity to speak to
you all today.

As you all know, at 10:05 A.M. on April 2nd, the water at the State College location of
the YMCA of Center County was confirmed to be contaminated by a leak in our septic system.
Since alerting the public of the contamination, we have had a total of 26 cases of waterborne
illness. Unfortunately, this has led to the deaths of three of our valued members.

I personally would like to express my deepest condolences to the families of the members
who have died.

We encourage anyone experiencing symptoms of waterborne illness to seek medical

attention immediately. Symptoms include vomiting, dehydration, diarrhea, and stomach pain.
Waterborne illness is not contagious; only those who were exposed to water at the State College
YMCA is at risk. This includes water from the pool, showers, sinks, and drinking fountains.

With the help of Police Chief John Gardner, we are currently investigating what led to the
leak in our septic system, as well as why it was not caught sooner. Per YMCA of Center County
guidelines, the septic system is to be checked on a daily rotation by maintenance staff. Our Board
of Directors is currently working on a new system of checking to make sure that an incident like
this can never happen again.

To prevent the spread of illness from this incident, we are closing the State College
YMCA. We realize this is an inconvenience for our dedicated members, so we are offering to
pay all the members of the State College YMCA a month worth of membership fees. We are also
allowing members to the other branches of the YMCA of Center County. These locations are in
Bellefonte, Moshannon Valley, and Penns Valley. Employees of the State College YMCA will
also be given shifts at our other locations while the State College YMCA is closed to assure they
do not suffer further from this incident.

We will now begin taking questions.
