Role purpose

To support the EES Project Manager in the implementation, monitoring and delivery of a project within the
English for Education Systems (EES) Unit of the British Council Colombia according to the project´s contract
with a public stakeholder and complying with British Council strategic objectives and internal policies.

Geopolitical/EES/Function overview:

1. Geopolitical overview – Colombia is an important commercial, cultural and educational partner for the U.K
and we need to increase the impact of our operation locally. In Colombia, the British Council works mainly in
English, Education and Arts.
The British Council’s delivers a series of consultancy and large- scale projects in the public sector.
Contracts: The British Council delivers a series of consultancy and teacher training projects for both public
and private sectors. Main contracts are currently with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Commerce,
The Ministry of Defence and Local Education Authorities.
Projects: British Council delivers a portfolio of large-scale and local projects in English, Education and
Society and the Arts.
The British Council’s English for Education System Strategic Business Unit (EES) formulates and delivers a
series of projects for both the public and private sectors.

Main opportunities/challenges for this role:

The Project Lead will have to:


1. Meet deadlines provided by the stakeholder and the British Council according to project’s needs
2. Provide full information of the project’s implementation and results
3. Articulate roles and activities of different team members and language trainers
4. Follow procurement and finance policies within the project’s implementation

Main Accountabilities:

a. Project Planning
• To support the EES Project Manager to plan, monitor and evaluate the project in line with strategic targets
and the stakeholder requirements
• To create and monitor a schedule for all administrative, academic and internal tasks for the project assigned
according to strategic targets and the stakeholder requirements.
• Lead planning meetings with the stakeholder to define aspects of the activities to be implemented during the
project’s implementation.
• Lead staff members to plan administrative, financial and academic activities to ensure quality delivery of the
assigned project.

b. Execution
• To deliver training and follow-up to team members about quality procedures, procurement, compliance and
British Council core values and policies.
• To support the EES Project Manager leading the project during the execution phase, assuring coordination
with the team of trainers.
• To supervise contracts with vendors including execution of activities, collecting evidence, approving
payments and social security payments.
• To support the EES Project Manager producing weekly progress reports that includes the technical and
financial components of the project.
• To ensure the regular flow of relevant information according to the agreed plan in coordination with the
communications team.

c. Monitoring and Control


• To support the EES Project Manager monitoring project’s income and expenditure in accordance with
agreed project financial plans.
• To monitor the implementation of the project, including results, customer satisfaction surveys, scope and
reach of the project, issues and mitigation actions.
• To propose and implement a protocol to ensure quality throughout the delivery of the project.
• To ensure that the evaluation strategy for the project is implemented in accordance with Corporate
Reference Evidence Framework standards and to report likely variations.
• To support administrative team to post all transfer journals of the project operation on the information
platform system

d. Marketing, Communications and Evaluation


• To ensure quality feedback is captured and assessed when appropriate in accordance with corporate
Reference Evidence Framework standards
Key Relationships:

The post holder will work with a range of stakeholders, both internal and external.
• Internal: Head of English, EES Projects Managers, language trainers, Finance Manager, and Exams
and E&S Team.

• External: Local education authorities, public & private organisations, UK stakeholders.
