Malaubang Integrated School (MIS) has been very supportive of the Department of Education (DepEd)

to the conduct of Brigada Eskwela (BE) or also known as National Schools Maintenance Week since the
first implementation of BE. With the number of years this has been implemented and with the
experiences the school has gone through, MIS has learned from each year BE is conducted. And this
year, 2019, the school has collected and applied the best and salient strategy to the success of the
program.

Mrs. Menerva D. Barola, the Public Schools District Supervisor (PSDS) of District 9 was behind the
success of the implementation of MIS BE 2019 because she was there to give every piece of advice from
when and where BE should start.

From what she had taught the school, MIS conducted the earliest preparation of BE as early as
November 2018 which was to identify potential partners and as much as possible have the letters be
forwarded to them before any other schools would do.

Malaubang has been chosen as the kick off ceremonial school in the division of Ozamiz City where it
brought honor and prestige to the institutions. And so, meeting after meeting was conducted to make
sure nothing was a missed.

A caravan was made possible from the Division of Ozamiz City in the IBJT Compound, Brgy. Carangan,
Ozamiz City to Malaubang Integrated School in which was participated by the Division of Ozamiz City
spearheaded by the one and only, Schools Division Superintendent, Sir Edilberto L. Oplenaria. All leaders
of the 10 districts were present with their school heads and some teachers.

The Opening Program

The program was very short and the coordinators strictly followed what was stipulated in the
implementation guide yet the awarding of the Medalists during the 2019 Palarong Pambansa made the
opening extra special.

After the singing of the National Anthem and the prayer through an AVP presentation, the stakeholders
and the volunteers were acknowledged by the school. The Schools Division Superintendent (SDS) with
the person of Sir Edilberto L. Oplenaria, gave short message and Ma’am Judith Bariquit expressed her
thanks on behalf of Brgy. Captain Saulo E. Salvador.

It was a busy day of MIS that no dull moment could be noticed. Best Channel, a local news media made
a coverage on what had occurred during that day that it appeared he got the chance to conduct a short
interview SDS Sir Eddie Oplenaria.

While the interview was made, some Philippine Coast Guards with the District 7 of the divisions had a
helping hand on smoothing the soil and the moving the boulder out brought about the construction of
the new 3-story-classroom building.

All volunteers and stakeholders were accounted by the Attendance Committee incharge and the
documentation committee was somewhere at the vicinity to get every piece and action performed by
the visitors.

It was clear that everyone had worked so hard that even SDS Eddie did the cleaning of the roof through
sweeping dry leaves with a broomstick.
Somewhere was Ma’am Elsie Ostia cleaning the landscape in front of the Principal’s Office and in the
other end was Ma’am May Edullantes who did the planting of an ornamental plant.

It was not just DepEd alone because barangay people with the learners and their parents have pitched in
to get Malaubang IS to what it deserves. Supervisors, School Head, and teachers were helping each
other through cleaning or donating in kind materials to facilitate in the brigade.

Day 2 of the Brigada…

The earlies to volunteer were Brgy. Kagawad Chris Maghanoy and the other brgy. Council with Sir
Ernesto B. Delvo, Jr who facilitated them. Father Francisco “Coco” was also present in the morning
brigade. With him were the catechists and was facilitated by Ma’am Meridith C. Gozon, the Brigada
Eskwela Coordinator in the elementary.

One of the things that MIS was also very thankful was the appearance of SWEMO during the 2nd day
because they were to collect garbage that gathered on day 1 and the earliest in day 2. Letter sent to
SWEMO was done 3 weeks before BE and it was stated in the letter to have the SWEMO come to pick up
garbage twice during the whole duration of BE 19.

During the same day, DPWH came with some equipment to do the pruning of the trees.

Day 3 of the Brigada…

On the third day of the brigada, the Brgy. Garbage Collector came to pick up the branches and twigs
caused by the pruning in Day 2. While the garbage and twigs were collected, some students and
volunteers did the cleaning of the white chairs.

Zeta Phi Omega was also present this day not only to bring some paints and paraphernalia for painting
but to paint the walls in the corridors themselves.

Prime Water representatives were also there to check leakage and change tubes and sinks that need
rehabilitation.

It is in this day that Ma’am Arlene A. Via with the regional monitor came to check the implementation of
the Brigada Eskwela and so in time, that the Robinson’s Supermarket came bringing along with them
some materials for cleaning and snacks for the volunteers.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) had also paid a visit and they were to assist and paint the classroom
walls of the grade 9 Uriel class.

Families of the teachers were also a big part of the classroom transformation of the teachers. They
helped not only in doing the painting but specially in the financial aspect. Providing their own
classrooms some paint and furniture.

The Local Government Unit of Ozamiz City came back with additional science equipment for the science
classes.

To talk about the updates of the brigada, MIS team pulled off a short talk show to discuss some very
important things that would address issues relative to Brigada Eskwela.

Day 4 of the Brigada…

Some real very early parents have come and do the morning sweeps around the MIS ground. Not very
long, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology came with a sack of cement and paint and
paraphernalia. The cement they brought was been utilized in the supposed to be restroom in the Grade
8 Raphael section. Since,a sack of cement was not enough, the adviser, Sir Don Virgilio D. Garcia, Jr
outsourced from his own pocket to materialized his plan inside the classroom.

Another school head came to bring the pledge of the district – one gallon of roofguard paint and some
broomsticks to facilitate cleaning.

The teachers were all very busy in their respective classrooms and offices to do some busting and
painting. Some teachers gave their pledges to the advisers as a form of financial aid and support. Just
like Ma’am Jocelyn V. Jumawan, she gave a gallon of paint to Ma’am Honelyn R. Saguran to paint Grade
8 Gabriel classroom.

Day 5 of the Brigada…

Some snack donations were captured by the coordinators. Some families and teachers have contributed
to give some support to the Summer Reading Campers.

Many more families of the teachers have come to help. Just like the family of Sir Don Virgilio D. Garcia,
Jr, they came to support their family member. And not later on that day, team LBC arrived spearheaded
by Mr. Jun Simblante to also support his wife, the principal of the school, Ma’am Clarinda Fe L.
Simblante. Team LBC did the wall painting around the school premises.

MOELCI II had served MIS also during that day. Fixing of the wires and even the fans were the big
contribution of the team.

Day 6…

Kiang Sip Glasshouse was there to catch the last wave of the brigade. The representative did the
counting and quantifying the window panes that missed in the windows.

Painting continues by the teachers and their families. And window curtains had been hanged
somewhere in the school after these had been laundry.

While some teachers were very busy in their classrooms, the other teachers left their classroom
activities and rather served the other teachers through cooking some meals to be shared by all after the
closing of the brigada.

All the committees were very busy.

Brigada Eskwela Closing Program…

The closing program was emceed by the same person in the opening, Mrs. Leziel C. Semense.

The school principal gave her message of thanks and gratitude for the successful implementation of BE
2019.

Mrs. Vanessa G. Tagal, Brigada Eskwela Coordinator in the secondary discussed the resources generated
and their utilization.
Mrs. Meridith C. Gozon, BE Coordinator in the elementary discussed on the accomplishments vis-à-vis
workplans.

Miss Bernadita A. Algodon, ESHT – III discussed some recommendations for future BE and outputs and
donations were discussed by Mrs. Estelita C. Saquin, SSHT – 1.

After all the talks and discussions, the awarding of certificates followed.

Indeed, the implementation of Brigada Eskwela 2019 was a huge success that was participated by 940
volunteers that would come to a total of _____________ pesos if their support be converted into
money.
