Statement of Purpose

The following is a candid expression of my Statement of Purpose.

From my school days, I have developed keen interest in knowing about celestial objects and early-

universe. The pictures of nebulae, star clusters, supernovas from the astronomy books appeared to be

very intriguing right from then and I believe the more we delve into the depths of the sky, the more it will

allure us, unravelling the mysteries of life. During my undergraduate years, I approached our professor
as an astrophysics enthusiast and she advised me to go through the books on astrophysics by

Professor Arnab Rai Choudhuri and Marc Leslie Kutner to know the fundamental concepts. I have also

learned a bit of coding in Python, Fortran and CAS like Maxima, Gnu plot. Having studied the basics, I

am inspired to learn more about stellar structures and stellar evolution. It will be extremely fascinating

to understand how the stars form, evolve and then finally collapse to be white dwarf or neutron star or

black holes. Also, in our college we hardly had any access to the instruments in the observatory and

we were only shown the moon, lunar eclipse, mars, mercury transit, Jupiter whereas the research

students used to collect data and analyse them. So, I would also like to learn about handling of

instruments and methods of procuring and analysing observational data to arrive at a conclusion. So, it

would be illuminating for me if I get an opportunity to do a research-based internship. It will not only

enrich me but also provide me with a flavour of research experience for the first time in life, which will

be instrumental in my career.
