Exercise

In the drawing below you can see a cut through a bevel gear box. The torque from the drive
side (1) is transmitted with the bevel gear (2) to the outcome side (3).

Task 1:
The drawing has some design flaws (bearings arrangement, assembling process, function
errors, sealing or others). Please mark any areas that you believe to be insufficient and
describe with only a few words what needs to be improved.

Task 2:

The sketch shows a wheel which has the weight G = 200 N. In distance r = 20 cm from the
center there is a spring attached with the spring constant c = 0.3 kN/m and the deviation Ds.
Load Q [N] is connected via a rope to the wheel in distance R = 400 mm. Between wheel and
beam of lenght l = 1.3 m the static friction coifficient is µ0 = 0.11.

a) What’s the maximum possible Q = Qr until the wheel starts slipping (equation)?
b) Q = Qr; What are the reaction forces and internal loads (equation and graphic)?
c) Where’s the most critical location?
