Maintenance
Ensure that all machines and motors whose operation might
endanger persons or equipment are switched off and
safeguarded against restarting for the entire duration of the
maintenance work.
Ensure that all rotating parts of the machine have come to a
standstill before you remove protection devices or open flaps.
All silo doors and silo access hatches must be closed and
secured by padlocks.
The interior of the silo may only be entered if empty.
Assign entering the silo with a cable winch and cage only to
suitable and reliable persons who are familiar with this work.
Keep the machine free of oily and combustible substances and
materials. Never use gasoline or other easily inflammable
substances for cleaning the machine.
Switch off the power supply to the electrical components
before commencing any maintenance work.
After all maintenance work, check that there are no leaks in
connecting points and connections.
Melting of polyester fabric causes hydrogen cyanide vapours;
therefore, extract the hydrogen cyanide vapours directly above
the point of work.
Strictly observe the welding instructions when performing any
welding work.
When electric arc welding or cutting are being performed, you
must ensure that the personnel cannot come into contact with
electrically conductive components. Use insulating underlays
for this purpose.
Never situate the source of the welding current in a confined
space where walls have conductive properties.
If you carry out electrical welding on any part of the machine,
never conduct the welding current through plain or antifriction
bearings, other movable connections or measuring equipment.
Always directly connect the welding current return lead to the
part being welded.
Remount all protection devices when maintenance work has
been finished. Make absolutely sure that no persons are inside
the plant component before you properly close the inspection
and service covers.

Silo
The silo and the mixing chamber must be vented by means of
filter systems. In the compartment underneath the silo cone (1.3)
there is the silo cone aeration system (1.23.1) and silo cone
venting system (1.23.2) for avoiding heat accumulation.
The silo (1) is used as an intermediate storage for dry fluidisible
bulk materials. It is continuously fed via the material distributor
(1.1).
The maximum filling height is restricted by the filling level limit
switch (1.8).
The respective filling level in the silo is determined by means of a
filling level measurement. The feeding system must be switched
off if a silo pilot is used for the measurement.
Air is introduced into the stored bulk material via the aeration
boxes (1.13), which loosens the bulk material and makes them
free-flowing. Due to the inclined floor areas the fluidised bulk
material flows through the silo outlet openings (1.11) into the
downstream outlet devices (2).
The aeration boxes (1.13) and the silo outlet troughs (1.12) in the
silo are supplied with air via ducting from the blowers (1.14 and
1.14.1). The air flow rate can be set by means of the manual
valves (1.18 to 1.21).
The aeration of each aeration sector is activated or deactivated
via the shutoff devices (1.16, 1.17 and 1.22).
The bulk material is discharged continuously. The bulk material is
conveyed respectively from one aeration sector of the silo, via
the outlet device (2), into the mixing chamber.
Mixing chamber
The blower (3.13) for the mixing chamber (3) is continuously in
operation for as long as the discharge system for the kiln feed
control system is in operation.
The filling level limit switch (3.3) is used to monitor the maximum
filling level in the mixing chamber.
The filling level in the mixing chamber is monitored with load
cells (3.4).
The bulk material is aerated via the aeration surface (3.7) and the
aeration floor (3.8), made free-flowing and mixed.

24 Silo Type BL
The air flow rate can be set by means of the manual valves (3.10)
and the shutoff flap (3.11). The aeration of each aeration sector in
the mixing chamber is activated or deactivated via the shutoff
devices (3.9).
Via the outlet devices (4), the bulk material is continuously
withdrawn in a definable quantity.

Sequence of assembly
The aeration system for the silo (1) has to be mounted in
accordance with the drawing and in the following sequence.
Ensure that the aeration boxes (1.13) and the silo outlet troughs
(1.12) are clean and dry. Before fitting, the pipes must be blown
through.
Provisionally install aeration boxes and silo outlet troughs
along the silo floor in accordance with the drawing. When doing
so, make absolutely sure, that the boxes are in contact across
the entire surface area, otherwise the silo floor must be
balanced.
Install pipes on the surfaces and through the silo cone (1.3) in
accordance with the drawing.
Connect aeration boxes to the pipes in accordance with the
following figure.
Figure 15
Then mount the aeration boxes and weld the connecting pipes
fixed and airtight.
When all aeration boxes and silo outlet troughs have been
installed and connected to the internal pipes, the connection
pipes are installed outside the silo interior.
NOTE
If the silo roof (1.2) has not yet been closed on completion of the
aeration system assembly, the aeration boxes must be protected
against moisture by means of suitable measures.
