Acetic Acid Salt Spray Test


(Chrome Plated Parts)
Method A2 (Std. 50180, ASTM B368)
This test is preferable for inorganic chemical coatings and electrolytic coatings, which
are only slightly reactive (e.g. chrome on steel or zmak, anodic oxidation on aluminium etc)
Test Conditions/Facilities:

Salt Sodium Chloride 50±5 g/L (5%)


Acid 1%
pH 3.1-3.3
Relative Humidity 95 %
Temperature 35±20C
Drawing Call Out (Std. 9-57410) CRT/B
Exposure Time 48 hrs
Test Panels (mm) 76×176

3. Extraction of sample
4. Evaluation
Evaluation:
Corrosion resistance shall be evaluated with the naked eye at normal reading distance.
Taking into account specifications on relevant standards test results shall be evaluated in
one of the following ways,

 Number of corrosion spots per unit of surface after a given exposure period.
 Time taken for first corrosion spot to appear or changes occur.
 Deterioration of mechanical propertied after a given exposure period
 Weight loss.
