Bigger is better. The more the merrier. People often associate
value with size and quantity. There was this Ninong (godfather) who made his inaanak (godson) choose between a bag of 100 one-peso coins and a P500-peso bill for his aguinaldo (Christmas gift). The boy, having no idea of the value of the Ninoy denomination, chose the shiny silver coins. Ignorance is indeed bliss. Unfortunately, we can't say the same for people who keep mistaking the new 5-peso for the 1-peso coin or vice versa once they realize their mistake. The two coins are almost similar in size, but the five-peso coin is heavier, bigger in diameter, and has a thicker edge. This somehow supports most people's perception that size and greatness go hand in hand. As for the little boy, his father told the Ninong that the child might swallow the coins if left unsupervised so he [Dad] would accept the P5oo-peso note in the child’s behalf. The dad also told his compadre that the boy would be free to choose between coins and bills after the latter had been thoroughly educated about money.
