FOR PREPARATION OF MINOR
IRRIGATION TANK PROJECTS

At present the Minor Irrigation Tank, Projects are being prepared following the guideline
framed as back,as 1964. The Chief Engineers, Minor Irrigation, at various stages have modified some
of the technical aspects as found necessary, The State Government constituted "Technical Appraisal
Committee’, for Minor Irrigation. Vide Government Order No Neeyee 221, Saneera 99 Dated
19.1.2000 and one of the terms of reference assigned is to frame guidelines for the preparation of
Minor Irrigation Tank, Projects, in addition to appraising Minor Irrigation Projects costing more than
Rs.30.00 Lakhs.
‘The “Technical Appraisal Committee" discussed the issue of framing guidelines for the
preparation of Minor Irrigation Tank Projects and formed a sub committee consisting of the following
smembers:~

‘The sub-committee have refered the existing guidelines, relevant ISI codes, other technical
papers and documents published by CWC. and others and also Rept in view. the modifications
suggested by World Bank, wlien extemal assistance was given to Tank, Irrigation Project. in
Kamataka. The Sub-committee have got up'a comprehensive guidelines for the preparation of Minor
Irrigation Tank, Projects. he guidelines include, the method of working out yield, crop water
requirement, water balancing statement Benefit Cost Ratio etc.
These guidelines have een discussed by "Technical Appraisal Committee" and also invited
comments from Chief Engineers of Minor Iigation Zones and field officers. The comments and
suggestions made 6y them have been examined and where ever found necessary they fave been
incorporated. These guidelines are very exhaustive and covers all aspects required in the framing of
‘Minor Irrigation Tank Projects, in Minor Irrigation Department.
1 am very thank, full to all the members of the sub-committee, staff of WRDO,
Sri. Venkatesh, Assistant Engineer, working in the office of the Chief Engineer, Minor Irrigation
(South) and also others who have assisted in framing the guidelines. I hope these guidelines will be
useful to all the Engineers of the Minor Irrigation Department in framing ang executing Minor
Irrigation tank projects. nes
