Topic: Word Formation (Clipped, Blended and Coined words)

Objectives:
After the remedial session, the students will be able to:
1. Define clipped, blended and coined words
2. Distinguish the differences between clipped, blended and coined words
3. Identify clipped, blended and coined words in the text
4. Make their own words using 3 kinds of word formation (clipped, blended and coined)

Materials:
1. Powerpoint slides for the lecture
2. Yellow pad and pen for the activity
3. Worksheet for the assessment

Lesson Proper:

A. Motivation (5 Minutes)​.
1. Before the discussion, students will be instructed to write 2 example words
they know for each of the 3 types of word formation (clipped, blended and
coined).
2. When the students are done writing the words, teacher will get 5 volunteers
for each category to recite their words
B. Discussion (15 Minutes)
1. Discussion (5 Minutes)
Teacher will be discussing the definition, and example of each word
formation (clipped, blended and coined) using powerpoint slides.

2. Activity (10 Minutes)


a. Students will form a pair.
b. One student will take the section A, and the other will take section B.
c. Using 6 words in each section, students will create their own clipped,
blended and coined words (For example, if ‘Rock’ and ‘Ballad’ is
given, student can form a word ‘Rockallad’ to blend the meaning).
d. When the students are done creating new words, they will make their
partners to guess what the new words mean
C.​ ​Assessment (10 Minutes)

Students will be answering a worksheet;

Part 1: Students will define what is clipped, blended and coined words
(Short answers: 3 items).

Part 2: Students will identify if the word is clipped, blended or coined word
(Multiple choice: 10 items).
