Discussion
In this project we measure the noise in one place when the rush hour occur and then we
will determine whether it is a trouble or not based on the regulation. Based on the data above, we
can make the graph about the sound level in one place.

Figure 1. Sound Measurement Graph

We can see that the maximum level of noise is 84 db, the minimum level is 84 and the average sound
level is 83.667 dB. All of this data is collected when the rush hour is happening and then based on
this data we can conclude that the noise will be around 80+ dB when rush hour is occur in this place.
Figure 2. dB to dB ABC

In this project, we got the frequency of the sound in the place is 1 kHz and based on figure 2 we can
assume that dB to dBa will not change too much, so we assume data that we got is equal too dBa.
After this, we will compare the data that we got with World Health Organization (WHO) standards.

Tabel 2. World Health Organization exposure standard

140 NO EXPOSURE

If we compare the result with WHO standards, our noise maximum exposure will be more than 8
hours, we can calculate this by using this equation.

t = 8 / 2(L - 85)/3
t = 8 / 2(83.666 - 85)/3
t = 10.887 hours
Assuming rush hour is 4 hours per day, we can calculate the amount of exposure of the
noise.
4
Exposure = 10.887 ∗ 100%

Exposure =36.7%
By looking this number, the exposure that the people got when driving 4 hour is already more than
1 quarter, by imagining that people will got another exposure from other 20 hours we determine
that there is problem with this.

Problem

By surveying in the location itself, we find many source of problem, such as

 A large number of cars

 A large number of trucks and bus

 Big motorcycle (can make a loud noise)

 Traffic volumes (high traffic)

 Average operating speeds of vehicle (usually people will drive really fast)
The noise itself can make many problem to people such as increase stress hormones, hearing
impairment, hypertension, ischemic heart disease, annoyance, and sleep Disturbance
