How Do You Handle Stress?
In an issue of the AARP Bulletin, readers
were asked to respond to the question:
What’s your strategy for coping with
stress? The answers ranged from “eat a
chocolate chip cookie” to “have a stiff
drink.” But Don Betz of Oakdale,
Minnesota, offered his own unique
solution. Every January 1st, Betz says, “I
give my wife $1, and she worries about
everything for both of us.”
That is not the entirety of the plan. Betz
added, “If someone else wants to be
worry free, they can also send her a
dollar.”
I see his point, but on the other hand,
he’s missing out on the opportunity to
grow. Study after study has shown that
there is a good side to stress. Maybe that
is what Jesus was getting at when he
spent so much of his teaching time
talking about it with his followers. It
depends on how you handle it.
Stress is a part of life. Some of us handle
it better than others.
Some of us find the good in it.
None of us have to handle it alone.
Time for a chocolate chip cookie.
