a ARGOS Rae
Introduction
‘The ARGOS pilot operated regulator is another in a series of
regulators that have been developed by the Engineering
Department of Gascat. The ARGOS is a pressure-reducing
regulator, which can be used for all types of natural gas and
industrial gas applications.
This regulator was developed with the intent to facilitate
‘ease of maintenance and parts replacement while in
service. Due to its top entry design, it is not necessary to
take the regulator aut of the pipeline for maintenance. The
ARGOS is known for its lightness, simple construction,
Superior performance of pressure control (1%), and high
flow capacity.
‘The ARGOS Regulator is primarily used in natural gas
for transmission and/or distribution systems.
‘This regulator can also be used in several other industrial
processes. Its "top entry" construction allows easy
‘maintenance and/or cleaning operation without
removing the regulator from the pipeline.
‘Asan option, the equipments also available with a built-in
shut-off valve (just for 2” size), incorporated in the same body.
For overpressure protection select ARGOS + IPS-H/PH.
For simultaneous overpressure and under pressure
protection select ARGOS + Hi-Lo Pilot.
“The ARGOS pilot operated pressure regulator outstanding
features are:
‘*High Accuracy
“High rangeabilty
‘sLarge flows
Low noise level
Bubble tight lock up
“Easy, fast and inexpensive maintenance
‘sLow cost of acquisition.
Operation Principle
‘At no flow, when the outlet pressure is greater than the
‘set point of the pilot, the pilot is closed and full inlet
Ipressure loads the main valve spring case through the
ppilat loading connection. In this condition, the main
‘diaphragm is closed tightly against the valve cage. Since
‘the difference between the inlet pressure and the outlet
[pressure is positive and itis added by the spring force the
‘diaphragm wil close tightly against the cage.
mo
When the demand for flow increases the outlet pressure
instantaneously drops opening the pilot allowing the loaded
‘gas escapes faster than the entrance of the gas and this
rates controlled by the restriction device.
When the demand for flow decreases, the downstream
pressure increases, causing the pilot to close, Inlet
pressure continues to pass through the restriction until the
control pressure equals the inlet pressure, The spring force,
plus the pressure differential across the outlet half of the
iaphragm closes the main valve.é GASCAT =
Adjustment of the variable restricting orifice affects the response rate, stability and sensitivity of the regulator. Smaller
restrictor openings result in higher sensitivity and slower closing speeds. Larger openings produce less sensitivity, greater
stability and faster closing speed.
The operating principle behind the ARGOS praduces a pressure regulator with extraordinary speed of response to flowing
demand variations and extremely accurate pressure adjustments, while maintaining extremely low "lock-up",
Technical Spe
‘A hard metallic flow conditioner was developed by Gascat together with
Research Institutions in order to reduce the kinetic energy of particles
normally contained in dirty gas.
This velocity reduction and redirection of the particles are enough to cause a
sensitive reduction of particles impact on the cage seal and on the diaphragm
avoiding the wearing on the metalic parts and on diaphragms erosion,
warranting on this way a longer useful life to these components in comparison
toother existing regulators that use same method.
