CHAPTER 1: PROJECT BACKGROUND

The Project
Project Objectives

This project aims to design a fifteen - storey Residential Condominium with a roof deck
Below are the specific objectives:
1. Observe and follow the standards and requirements listed from the National Structural Code of the
Philippines.
2. Utilize modern tools and softwares in such as Autodesk AutoCad, Autodesk Revit, Microsoft Office
Excel, and STAAD.
3. Integrate realistic factors and constraints such as environmental, economic, safety factor, and
strength capacity in accordance with engineering codes and standards, and design procedure.

The Client
The client of the project is the Ayala corporation, which
was established in late 1834. Well, the company started with the
formation and partnership between two persons which are
Domingo Roxas and Antonio De Ayala, but as time goes by
the owner of the company became Jamie Augusto Zobel De
Ayala.

Jamie Augusto Zobel De Ayala, also known as Jamie


Augusto Zobel, is a Filipino businessman, from the De Ayala
family. He currently serves as a chairman and chief executive
officer (CEO) of the Ayala Corporation. In assertions to his
position in the Ayala Corporation, He also became the chairman
of the sister companies that Ayala has. Such as: Globe Telecom,
Bank of the Philippine Islands and Integrated Microelectronics.

He graduated in Harvard University, where he finished a Bachelor of Arts in Architectural sciences in


1957. He also attended the six-week Advanced Management Program in the Far East and later became the
CEO of Ayala Corporation.

Project Scope and Limitations


This project will only cover Ultimate Stress Design (USD) and Working Stress Design (WSD) both
for the reinforced concrete design of beams, columns and slabs as well as the foundation design. It would
also include design specifications for structural steel with two different design approaches: Allowable Stress
Design (ASD) and ‘‘Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD). It shall not go beyond the topics in
Reinforced Concrete Design, Foundation Design, Structural and Steel Design, and shall not designate
other forms of design not included in RCD, FD and SSD.
