The contract negotiation committee also proposed 50% of offset in the deal. France refused the Suggestions and
►  2010 (1)
said they will invest only 30% of the deal value in India. However later some reports suggested that France agreed
Indian proposal of 50% of deal value money to be invested back in India. The major roadblock kicked and both side
moved towards next line of contract negotiations.

Days ago Indian defense minister said the Rafale deal is in final stages of price negotiations, which is reported by
Economic times. However there is no clear information about the offset issue and deal value finalization. Which
makes the deal still hanging. Minister also confirms that 50% offset issue almost sorted out. However minister
didn't said it is finalize.

Minister also confirms that only 36 Rafale's will be procured under government to government contract. There is
no additional numbers are planned. However some Air force officials believes that the 36 numbers makes logistics
issue and makes no wonder in Combat or any other operations. So it could be another 36 or more will come under
Make in India initiative. They also cited the French aerospace involvement in Indian  defense sectors.

Safron is the Company who delivering Sneccma M88 Engines to the Rafale Aircraft and invested a Indian
assembly line to produce the engines in India. They plans to make Engine parts and assembly line in India to meet
the Indian needs of more engines to the first announced MMRCA tender. Reports from Bloomberg cited Safron
confirmed they shelved the Indian assembly line plans due to low number of Rafale orders. Which is considered a
major drawback in the Rafale deal.

The same news quoting officials circled all over the media since two years, yet no clear changes in the ground,
Which makes India might move away from the deal otherwise French will walk away from the Deal. Even after
Indian announcement, Qatar and Egypt singed Rafale deal with France and Egypt operating three units of Rafale's.

Did India requested the US to supply Avenger combat Drone

Did India requested the US to supply Avenger combat Drone

US Media Bloomberg reported that Indian Air force sends a expression of interest (EoI) letter to General Atomics
to know the capability of Avenger next generation unmanned combat vehicle. The EoI is a formal know how letter,
to read the actual capabilities of the program. Avenger is the most advanced combat drone available today, Who
yet to see combat missions. The Avgener program still on development and testing stages. While US and Canada yet
to order those Platforms from GA.

Indian Air force is in full swing to modernize the fighter aircraft fleet, support platforms, air defense systems
and the unmanned fleet. India recently inks a deal to buy Israeli Eitan armed drone's for some $400 millions, the
delivery's commence from 2017. Meanwhile the Indigenous Rustom 2 all set to perform airborne trails before the
end of this year. IAF operates variety of drones from small to High altitude long endurance drones. However India
yet to operates or demonstrated an attack drone. Since Chinese and Pakistani forces already operating them.

Avenger is developed from the MQ 9 Reaper drone, While the Avenger is modified with more powerful turbofan

http://sajeevpearlj.blogspot.in/search/label/Indian%20Air%20force 3/27
11/23/2015 Life of Soldiers: Indian Air force
engines and internal weapon bays and reduced radar cross section. The Avenger is first in kind of stealth drones,
primarily designed to strike targets deep behind enemy lines in a contested air space. which is perfectly suits
Indian's need of Strike targets deep behind Pakistan, more clearly anywhere in Pakistan.

The Avenger comes with some extraordinary modern sensor packages and electronic counter measure systems.
The primary Radar in the Avenger is the Lynx SAR radar. which is used for surveillance and target tracking. The SAR
images can be analyzed in the ground control center and the Avenger's EO/IR sensors can lock the target and
launch missiles for precision kills.

The Avenger carries a modified model of EOTS systems which is used in the F 35. EOTS is an advanced technology
of evolved OSF and IRST, which uses infrared's to detect targets both in ground and air. The EOTS can track, classify,
lock and launch laser guided missiles at longer ranges. During an evaluation EOTS performed pin point strike at the
range of some sixty kilometers. The EOTS in the Avenger called as Advanced low observable embedded
reconnaissance and targeting system or ALERT.

The Avenger can fly as much as height of some 50,000 feet, well above from civil air traffic. Avenger can stay in
the air for long time to continuously patrol the designated zone for activities. Avenger can continuously fly more
than eighteen hours at the speed of some 700 kmph, Avenger is the only combat drone in the world that can fly
such high subsonic speed. The Avenger combat drone can be carried by the C 17 Strategic air lifter, Which can be
launched from the C 17 at some specified altitude.

Avenger can carry more than 1500 kg's of payload in it's internal weapon bays, which include guided bombs and
glide bombs. While the Avenger yet to fire stand off cruise missiles. The external hard points can carry guided
missiles like hell fire for anti armor support. mostly used for destroying enemy mobile air defense batteries. The
Internal weapons bay can reduce the RCS signatures makes the drone nearly stealth when flying at the civil traffic
altitude.

Chinese CH 4 Wingloong UAV

The Chinese made CH 4 drone is performing strike missions in Iraq. It's clear that Pakistan too gets their hands
on those drone very soon. While Indian plans are yet to materialize. The Eitan attack drones and the Rustom will
perform missions only after 2018. Even if the Avenger deal initiated Indian air force gets those drones only after
2020. So there is two to three years cap in compared to China and Pakistan.

During the last MTCR Meeting, India requested the thirty four nations organization to accept India as a member.
Unfortunately the countries blocked India's request. Americans presence also in the meeting, they voted in favor of
Indians. The MTCR is a organization who blocks exporting armed drones and missiles who has range more than 300
kilometer and payload over 500 Kg's. Russia also in the MCTR. the reason why Brahmos missile's range capped at
300 kilometers.

So Buying the Avenger UCAV needs MTCR Membership, while US has no problem to supply drones to Indian Air
force even India don't have the MTCR membership. Washington supplies most advanced US technology's to India
to fight against China and Pakistan. The recent developments in Make in India program and carrier transfer
technology is good examples.

Massive Military Exercises close to Pakistan

Massive Military Exercises close to Pakistan

Ready for the Fight

Indian Navy and Army currently conducting a bigger exercises close to Pakistan. The Navy conducting massive
offensive and defensive operation involving front line warships, Sub marines and Fighter aircraft's under the code
name of Defense of Gujarat Exercise. On the other side Indian Army's 21 st Strike corps conducting massive
offensive exercise close to Pakistan border involving 30,000 of Infantry soldiers along with hundred's of Tanks and
Artillery's with Air Force's Close Air support fighter aircraft's and Helicopters.

Meantime the Indian Air force also commenced a full spectrum Military exercise under the code name of
Livewire. The Air force exercise also involves majority of fighter jets along with support planes like A 50 Phalcon
Aewcs and more. It's quite interesting that government maintains silence about this exercise. unlike other exercises
the Media allowed to take photographs and write columns. However during this time no one allowed inside the
exercise zone.

Indian Army's 21st corps offensive exercise

The Indian Army's 21 st strike corps currently conducting massive offensive exercise close to the Pakistani
border, The exercise noticed by Economic times in early September. The Exercise allows the forces ability to
conduct offensive operation even in dense CBRN condition. The exercise utilizes the Army's strike corps offensive
capabilities.

The exercise happens each year in Rajastan involving any of the Army's strike corps. The 21 st Strike corps
mobilized all over from the country and re united in Rajastan for the Offensive Drills close to Pakistan. ET earlier
reports the Pakistan has been notified about the troops mobilization and exercise.

Army's T 90 MS at firing Range

The 21st strike corps consists of an armored division equipped with Main battle tanks, Artillery's field guns and
Multi barrel rocket launchers. It's also include two infantry divisions a dedicated artillery brigade and Air defense
brigade. However selected persons from the 21st Strike corps will conduct the exercise in Rajastan. The Exercise is
currently live. It's reported that the exercise happens for the next 20 days or so.

Indian Air force Livewire

Livewire is the known name of IAF's primary offensive exercise. This years Livewire exercise currently ongoing
somewhere in India. Even the exact location of the exercises still remain secret.  However some sources say the The
Air force conducts the exercise close to Pakistan. Assisting the Army's exercise and Navy's exercise is also be a part
of the Livewire.

PIB published the exercise commenced on 31st October. The Exercise means to validate the full spectrum
capability of the air force's strike capability, Providing assistance to the ground operations. The Exercise also use
the network centric operational preparedness method. which alerts all the Air force stations for the possible
incoming threats. However the actual details about the this years live wire exercise objective unknown.

Air force fielding much advanced SIGINT and AEWCS Planes and mobile surface to air batteries like Akash and
OSA AK. Satellite tracking and simulated missile attacks also being tested during the exercise

Indian Navy Defense of Gujarat Exercise

Same like above exercise, The Navy's exercise is also unknown to the Public. The Navy currently engaging a
biggest ever Naval exercise close to Karachi. The Exercise involves western Naval command's major warships. which
include newer Kolkata class destroyer, Shivalik class frigates and many other warships and navy auxiliary ships.

Indian navy ships in Formation

The Navy's air squadron the Black Panthers also flying offensive and defensive counter air and anti shipping
exercises. The Black panther consists MiG 29 K multi role air crafts. The Navy also deploying Submarines and ASW
crafts in the DGX exercise. The Indian Air force's Jaguar maritime strike air craft's also participating the exercise for
simulated anti ship missile launches.

The combat drills involving Blue and Red forces. One is mimicking as offensive and other is need to be defend
and repel the attack. Such combat drill also involves live fire exercises. The recent test firing of Brahmos from INS
Kochi also comes from part of this exercise says military watchers.

It's quite interesting such major offensive operation wouldn't get covered by front line media's. also defense
ministry's public release too didn't inform about the military exercises. It's quite clear the coordinated Military
exercise is to tests the Military's capability to conduct a offensive strike against Pakistani forces.

Parrikar Visit to Russia to sweeten the FGFA deal

Parrikar Visit to Russia to sweeten the FGFA deal

http://sajeevpearlj.blogspot.in/search/label/Indian%20Air%20force 7/27
11/23/2015 Life of Soldiers: Indian Air force

Indian Defense minister Manhoar Parrikar all set to visit Russia this November to advance the FGFA and MTA
negotiations. Defense Ministry keen to fast track both FGFA and MTA program, and planning to sort out major
problems before the Prime ministers visit to Russia. As many issues and backlogs listed in both FGFA and MTA deal.
It's believed under the new defense procurement policy defense ministry may speed up the delayed fighter
procurement.

In 2015, The Indian Air force didn't received any new fighter jets except some Hawk and Pilatus trainers. The
other side Indian Navy receives pretty good fighters and ASW planes from Russia and USA. The Air force's delayed
projects like Rafale acquisition program and FGFA program hits road blocks due to many reasons. The defense
ministry finding new ways to eliminate the delay by drafting a new Defense procurement Policy very soon.

Indian Air force's flagship project is the FGFA, a modified variant of Russian PAK FA. Even the AMCA program also
a long legged project, however IAF not concerned about AMCA, while they already knew the capability of ADA and
HAL. The PAK FA program in Russia also has some problems like delays in testing and survivability of the air craft.
The IAF also unhappy about the progress of PAK FA, since rival Chinese almost closes to induct the fifth gen stealth
fighter jet J 20 by 2016.

The major issue in the PAK FA program is the engine problem. The Russians yet to develop the Engines for the
PAK FA, since fifth gen fighter should need an improved engine ehich can capable to perform super cruise in
supersonic speed, also increased thrust and fuel efficiency. The PAK FA currently uses the modified variant of AL 31
F. The engine who powers the Su 35 Fighter jets.

Earlier the PAK FA engine developer agreed that the new engine could be ready by 2017. The PAK FA would fly
with the new engines by 2017. after completing the trails, serial production of the new engines started by 2020. As
per Russian aerospace force the first batch of PAK FA comes with the modified AL 31 F. While the Block 2 version
comes with new engines. So far there is no clear progress in the Engine development due to Ukrainian crisis who
shorts the Supply lines.

http://sajeevpearlj.blogspot.in/search/label/Indian%20Air%20force 8/27
11/23/2015 Life of Soldiers: Indian Air force

117 S engine who powers the Su 35 and PAK FA

As per new plan The Indian Air force wants some sixty plus PAK FA fighter jets as a direct purchase from Russia.
While the Air force didn't mentions about the engine characteristics of the direct purchase. The interim purchase
will allow the Air force to stand against the Chinese fifth generation fighter's threat. However there is no theory that
a fifth generation fighter would be encountered by a fifth gen only. The one who has superior RCS, Radar and
missile can win the battle.

The IAF's new plan is to buy nearly seven to eight squadron of FGFA. The FGFA comes with 40 major structural
changes and it will be produced in HAL with the support of Russian engineers. For that India should give some $6
billions for research and development to Russia for transferring the cutting edge technologies like the Radar,
engine and RAM coatings.

Once India signs the $6 billion R&D contract. Russia would deliver three PAK FA for testing and study purposes to
further develop the FGFA. The Russian engineers will teach the Indian counterparts to develop the most advanced
fifth gen fighter in India. However the user IAF or IN should pay the production cost of the Fighter jets. each FGFA
cost estimated some $120 million. Which makes  the total acquisition cost more $20 billion for eight squad of FGFA.
Overall FGFA project value costs more than $25 billions. This has to be spend in next ten years.

Until then India won't claim the PAK FA project would be the JV project of India and Russia. India may walk away
from the deal any day, If IAF pilots didn't satisfied the performance of PAK FA. India insists the Russians let the IAF
pilots to evaluate the PAK FA before buying the PAK FAand signing the FGFA contract.

To clear those road blocks Indian Defense minister will visit Russia and discuss with the Russian counterparts.
The visit pave the way to signing a agreement regarding the evaluation and R&D contract with Russia during the
PM's visit by Russia December this year.

Once again Gripen, now the Electronic attack variant

http://sajeevpearlj.blogspot.in/search/label/Indian%20Air%20force 9/27
11/23/2015 Life of Soldiers: Indian Air force

Once again Gripen, now the Electronic Attack variant

It's the IAF's wish to acquire a fleet of electronic attack jet similar to the American Growler. Since ages the IAF
keep trying to insists the ministry to acquire a fleet of such electronic attack variants. So far  US and the Australians
are the one who operates such dedicated jamming fleet, and now Chinese modifying the JH 7 for such duties and
Russians also started working on the Su 34 by converting into Jamming aircraft. The Brazil is another country who
makes contract with Swedish company for possible electronic attack variant based on the Gripen NG platform.

The Gripen also proposed the IAF officials to jointly produce the EA variant of Gripen NG along with Brazil and
Sweden. The IAF yet to respond the offer, Since the Gripen has not capable to combat in much longer missions,
since it comes with single engine and smaller in size, compared to  other fighter jets in it's variant.

SAAB's aeronautics executive vice president  Sindahl said in a interview " If you look into future combat
scenarios, if you have a high-end air force with a broad threat situation, something like a ‘Growler Gripen’ would
make a real difference,That‘s what we’re looking into, and that’s why it’s so good to have Brazil on board with the F-
model ".

The future combat air battle involves much complex condition include denial of modern combat system in the
fighter jets by using dedicated jammers to disrupt the frequencies. US is the master in such technologies using such
jamming planes since decades. By checking their combat loses in air warfare is very minimal compared to other air
forces. And they almost capable to shoot down any hostile aircraft with the powerful support jets before the enemy
found the presence of foreign aircraft's. Even in the F 117 shoot down in Serbia, the US post mission brief reported
that the lack of support system like EA 6B prowler's absence makes the SA 125 successfully intercept the F 117.
Interestingly later days almost all US offensive combat fleet comes with dedicated electronic jamming jets.

In the Iraqi invasions US flown as much as 100,000 sorties over the Iraqi air space. That time Iraq has much
better air force and surface to air missile batteries. In that combat US lost only 44 fighter jets in combat missions,
and another 40 in Accidents. The EF 111 Raven is used to provide electronic support to the collation aircraft and
there is no Coalition aircraft were lost to a radar-guided missile during Desert Storm while an EF-111 Raven was on
station. EF 111 Raven later replaced by the EA 6B prowler, then the same was replaced by the EA 18G growler.

http://sajeevpearlj.blogspot.in/search/label/Indian%20Air%20force 10/27
11/23/2015 Life of Soldiers: Indian Air force

The US uses the long range twin engine fighter jets for such missions. The same goes for China and Russia too.
The JH 7 is a twin engine long range heavy fighter and the same goes to Su 34, which is  also a long range low flying
heavy fighter. The IAF must choose either the Su 34 based EA or the Growler. unlike the Gripen which comes in
shorter range and not capable for long range stand off Jamming support.

Su 34 with center line and wingtip jammers

For jamming each jamming pods requires much power to generate high frequency radio waves, which require
high energy means more fuel. The Growler comes with five dedicated AN ALQ 99 pods, which needs high power to
emit much powerful radiation to jam ground based radars and airborne radar guided missiles. The emitting power
should be greater than the enemy missiles electronic guidance for successful jamming. Those jamming pods in the
EA 18 G produce more than 60 kW of energy in all bands in desired speed and altitude for successful jamming.

Self protection jamming pods like SAP 315 in Sukhoi's can provide jamming support to own fighter jets and will
not support other or friendly forces nearby. The Russian KRET who producing SAP jammer's are to be fitted in the
center line or wingtips of the Su 34 and other Flanker variants for self protection to fight and operate inside the
communication denied air spaces.  They comes with the idea of converting a Su 34 by adding multiple SAP pods for
dedicated stand off jamming capability for safe operations and provide jamming support to the friendly jets for
operating under a safe umbrella . It may be available for exports too and it's a good choice of choosing the Su 34
for IAF's dedicated jammer fleet.

Krakusha EW system

http://sajeevpearlj.blogspot.in/search/label/Indian%20Air%20force 11/27
11/23/2015 Life of Soldiers: Indian Air force
Another one is the ground based Jammer systems. The same KRET who manufactured SAP jamming pods also
manufactures ground based jammers for communication and signal denial. They almost completed a bigger sized
jamming antenna's in occupied Crimea to stop NATO aircraft's misadventures in future conflict. Another mobile
jammer is the Krasukha EW system comes in a 4x4 wheel for battlefield jamming. The Russians already deployed
the systems in Syrian Latakia base to stop any foreign fighters air space activities. Comparison between the
airborne jamming and ground based jamming is, one is offensive and another is defensive.

However Indian Air force uses the self protection jammers only for self defense. It comprises Israeli and french
EW pods for Su 30 and Mirage fleet's respectively. And there is no ground based or air borne based dedicated stand
off jamming systems, except those AEWCS systems. which can also works like a Jammer. It's high time that Ministry
should clear the IAF proposal of buying such dedicated Jamming fleet.

PGM's Stocking dosages to Pakistan and China

PGM's Stocking dosages to Pakistan and China

http://sajeevpearlj.blogspot.in/search/label/Indian%20Air%20force 12/27
11/23/2015 Life of Soldiers: Indian Air force

The future battle would be coming from the air. one who dominates the air who can control the land too, even if
the enemy has large number of ground units and associated systems. The current Syrian campaign and the earlier
Iraqi invasion are all point outs the need of precision bombs to kill enemy outfits to support the ground units for
further advance. In invasions the enemy ground soldiers numbers and support systems will be pinned down any
highly trained much modern forces. so the friendly forces in enemy territory always relies on the friendly Air
support missions to neutralize enemy strongholds.

The next war between India and Pakistan becomes a very long time war, with the Liberation of Baluchistan and
recapture of Pakistan occupied Kashmir. the Indian Tri services thinks about offensive in case of any misadventures
made by Pakistan. after the 26/11 India learned that they have full power to defend the Nation from enemy attack.
however they were not ready for a large scale offensive. and the published CAG report also states about the
shortage of ammo in early 2008-2013.

The offensive mission in Syria is another example of the need of precision guided munitions, along with dumb
bombs. the dumb bombs are not guided which are mostly used for carpet bombing to pinned down the enemy
forces by stopping their advancement. the dumb bombs makes collateral damages making nearby by soft or civilian
targets at high risk. precision bombing is much simple and lethal, which is used for pin point strikes, to destroy
enemy points lazed by lasers or marked by the friendly forces.

The US forces used the AC 130 gunships heavily in the Afghan campaign for close air support, since they have full
air superiority over the afghan airspace. even the Taliban has less number of MANPAD's which are ineffective
against those high flying targets. Even in Syria the Russians enjoying the air superiority and dropping bombs from
the air. there is a lesson that Russian showing, by destroying the ISIS and FSA targets using unguided dumb bombs,
and the high value sorties from Su 34 comes with KAB 500 GLONASS guided bombs, to destroy rebel positions at
high precision. thus gives a good chances to the Syrian and pro government allied ground forces to advance into
the rebel occupied territory's.

During the Desert Storm US dropped two hundred thousands of unguided bombs, and 17,000 guided munitions.
and found the precision guided munitions shows much better result than the 200,000 unguided bombs. with the
lessons, 1998 Iraqi bombing the Americans dropped more guided munitions than the dumb bombs. later in Afghan
campaign they used the PGM's more effectively than the Dumb bombs. in the Afghan campaign US dropped some
9000 unguided bombs along with another 20 thousands of guided munitions. thus shows US slowly moving from
the dumb bombs to guided munitions.

The same goes to Kargil, the IAF found lack of PGM bombs in it's inventory and lack of target designators, when
talking about precision bombing in Kargil  Philip says "The Mirage 2000 were supplied with Thomson-CSF Laser
Designator Pod, known as ‘ATLIS’ which was capable of delivery of Matra 1000 kg LGBs, which were purpose built

for destruction of reinforced targets. These weapons were highly capable but were very expensive." During the
Kargil conflict, only Mirage 2000 had the capability to deliver a precision-guided bomb accurately on Tiger Hill,
which makes new fighter acquisition and bombs must suited to give proper dosages to both Pakistan and China
effectively in high grounds.

To destroy Pakistani land targets and to stop the Chinese offensive, India need some 40,000 of guided bombs
along with another 10K of unguided bombs bombs. which can be armed in both Su 30 MKI and Mirage fleets. even
the LCA can be used for continuously bombing Pakistani land targets with the guided bombs. The Su 30 MKI and
LCA can strike Mountain targets with laser guided munitions with the use of Litening laser designation pod. and the
medium fighters like Mirage and Rafale pound ground targets using satellite guided munitions.

compared to missiles, delivering the bombs through fighter jet is best in target strike and economical matters. the
Fighter's can engage targets like highly mobile Tanks or Artillery's. and the long range missiles are best for
destroying command centers and and other immovable economic corridors.

IAF Dream of 42 Squadron of Fighter Jets

IAF Dream of 42 Squadron of Fighter Jets

http://sajeevpearlj.blogspot.in/search/label/Indian%20Air%20force 14/27
11/23/2015 Life of Soldiers: Indian Air force

The Cabinet committee approved IAF to operate 42 squadron of fighter jets, to confront against both Chinese and
Pakistani Air force same time. not only the combat jets, the need of support planes like cargo planes, airborne
Radar systems, ELINT planes, and rotary wing systems like Helicopters, unmanned platforms and anti air missiles.
as Air force almost lost good years by focusing only the MMRCA acquisition and LCA, now only the government
providing full support to speed up the pending deals.

The air force now running with very low number of combat air crafts, less than twenty five squadron fighters jets
only combat capable. which can fight against either China or Pakistan, however not withstand against coordinated
attack by both Chinese and Pakistani fighter jets. currently Indian Air force have some ten plus Su 30 MKI squads,
six Jaguar squad, three MiG 29 and another three Mirage 2000 squads, which are capable to fight or out perform
both Chinese and Pakistani air crafts.

IAF's Flanker and Fulcrum variants are highly customized fighters, which can out perform Pakistani F 16 Blk 52
fighters and Chinese Su 27 Flankers, the Mirage is a good multi role fighter can perform multiple missions in single
sortie, China and Pakistan don't have such kind of fighters. Jaguar is the best ground attacker jets, can fly very low
and used for suppressing enemy air defense systems, which is called as Bomb truck.

In future IAF plan is to induct two squad of Indian made Tejas MK 1 and another eight squadron of improved
Tejas MK 1 A. this ten squads eventually replaces the older MiG 21 and MiG 27 fighters. as per plan all MiG 21 and
MiG 27 fighters will be withdrawn from service before 2022. with or without adding an replacement. IAF currently
operating nearly 15 squadron of MiG 21 and MiG 27 fighters. each year two MiG 21 and one MiG 27 squadrons
replaced without adding new fighters, despite delay of LCA and Rafale.

IAF plans to replace those MiG 21 with the addition of desi made Tejas MK 1 fighters. The Tejas is yet to test fire a
Radar guided missile and yet to perform air refueling which is a milestone to achieve final operational clearance to
be certified to fly combat missions under IAF tag. The MMRCA meant to replace those MiG 27 ground attack jets
with more powerful multi role Rafale jets. the government scrapped the MMRCA and went to direct purchase of
less than two squad of Rafale's. it's believed that IAF may license manufacture more than ten squadron of Rafales
in India, however it's still on speculations.

In the next decade IAF comes with variety of new fighter jets, which include fifth generation fighter jets like PAK FA
and FGFA, which brings the IAF squadron count close to 42,

15 Squad of Su 30 MKI
10 Squad of Tejas MK 1 and MK 1 A
6   Squad of Jaguar M/S
3   Squad of PAK FA
3   Squad of MiG 29 UPG
2   Squad of Mirage 2000 TI
2   Squad of Rafale F3R

Thus brings the Fighter Aircraft numbers close to 41 squadrons, before 2025. that is ten years from Now, as
before IAF may face least number of Squad in coming days. that's counted less than 25 squadrons.

11/23/2015 Life of Soldiers: Indian Air force

IAF's another major program is to modernize the strategic and tactical air lifters. IAF currently operates some
nine C 17 globe master III and fifteen Il 76 MD planes. IAF lost to capture the  Boeing's last ten C 17 from it's final
assembly line, which makes the IAF to sufficient in strategic air lifters for next forty years. because of the lose IAF
needs to look up some other platforms or modernize the Il 76 MD planes. Ai rforce also acquires 12 C 130 J tactical
transporters for special operations, and IAF plans to buy more numbers of C 130 J in coming years.

Another program is to replace the HS 748 Tactical transporters with much powerful modern C 295 transporters.
TATA won the deal to supply some 50+ Planes to the IAF. however the contract yet to be signed. due to the delay in
MTA project, IAF upgraded almost all An 32 Cline Transporters into An 32 RE with the support from Ukraine, which
will be remain in service till 2030.

The Fighter Jets must need tactical supports like Aerial Refueling and Airborne radar support, IAF currently
operates seven IL 78 MKI refeulers, and IAF shortlisted french airbus A 330 MRTT to supply six more aerial refulers
to IAF. the contract yet to be signed, anyhow this numbers are not enough for large IAF fleet. IAF must need atleast
20 such bigger aerial refuelers.

Airborne Radar support is another major aspect in air combat, who assist the friendly aircraft. also perform as a
flying air traffic controller who assign and coordinate friendly fighter jets to carry out strike missions. IAF currently
operates three Phalcon AEWCS and another two under construction in Israel. two EMB 145 AEWCS under testing.
IAF also shortlisted Airbus A 330 to supply six air frames to DRDO, to modify the air crafts who can carry DRDO
developed LRSTR Radar on it's top. which is similar to American E 3 sentry aewcs, all these support planes may
enter the IAF before 2020, and within next ten years IAF dominate the Asian skies as proving one of the best Air
force in Asian continent.

Know your Apache and Chinook

Know your Apache and Chinook

http://sajeevpearlj.blogspot.in/search/label/Indian%20Air%20force 16/27
11/23/2015 Life of Soldiers: Indian Air force

After years long delay, Finally India signs the deal with US to buy 22 Apache Attack helicopters and 15 Chinook
heavy lift Helicopters along with associated equipment's valued $3 billions, the deal was finalized early 2010 by
Boeing and India, and Boeing keeps the same price for more than 13 times before signing the deal, so far the
signing details not available for public release however the FMS - foreign Military sales document clearly says
Apache would be the AH 64 Block III variant that's the AH 64 E, the most modern helicopter in service with US
forces, however no clear information available for which variant of CH 47 would be delivered, as per earlier
suggestions in 2010, The CH 47 F would be acquired, and recent time US moved with much modern MH 47 G
versions.

There is no doubt that AH 64 is the most advanced attack helicopter ever developed, during the race with Russian
Mi 28, Apache impressed the Indian officials with network centric capability, low flying capability and easy weapon
handling, along with fire and forget anti armor missiles and 30mm chain gun impressed the IAF officials very much.
the initial plan is to buy 22 apache helicopters followed by another 11 Helicopters in future, that's only for the air
force, also Army too insisting the Ministry to buy a set of 39 Apache helicopters, however both follow on order and
Army's requests put on hold as of now.

Apache is an low observable helicopter, when it flies very low, no radar will see it, during the initial stage of attack
in Iraq, Apache leads the role by destroying Iraqi early warning radar's, without being detected, It also performed
numerous support missions all over Iraq and Afghan proved it's capabilities, most of the Helicopters won't carry
fire control radar's, the AH 64 E carries a mast mounted milli meter wave fire control radar developed by the
Northrup gruman, the Long bow radar can guide the Radar guided missile Hell fire to engage targets in fire and
forget mode, which allows automatic target acquisition and engaging, the Long bow can track more than hundred
targets within a minute, both moving and stationary targets, and ripple fire the Hell fire missiles, Apache can carry
16 Hell fire missiles,

Apache also support the Ground troops using it's missiles and gun's. the Apache's optical systems allows engage
hell fire missiles, if the target was lazed by the ground troops. means if Ground troops pinned down by enemy
heavy resistance, they can light the enemy positions using the laser which was connected with Apache's computer
system, once the target acquired Apache can use missiles, Rockets or Guns to suppress the Target.

Apache comes with two heavy engines that can boost the Apache's speed by some 300 kilometers per hour, and
can fly as much as 20,000 feet, Apache can conduct mission close to some 500 kilometers, these stats for fully
armed AH 64 E, if it was stationed in Kashmir region Apache can cover entire Kashmir Region, and reach any given
spot within a hour with full combat power. It's believed IAF could use those Apache's close to Border area's to
provide air cover to the ground troops, Apache's can't be refueled in the air, however it can be deployed from any
forward operating air bases close to the mission area. Apache can also engage air threats like fighter aircraft's,
helicopters and UAV's using the Stinger missiles.

with the Packages, IAF set to receive tons of missiles, ammunition  and spare parts, the package includes" 50
T700-GE-701D engines, 12 AN/APG-78 Fire Control Radars, 12 AN/APR-48A Radar Frequency Interferometers, 812
AGM-114L-3 Hellfire Longbow missiles, 542 AGM-114R-3 Hellfire II missiles, 245 Stinger Block I-92H missiles, and 23
Modernized Target Acquisition Designation Sight/Pilot Night Vision Sensors, rockets, training and dummy missiles,
30mm ammunition, transponders, simulators, global positioning system/inertial navigation systems,

http://sajeevpearlj.blogspot.in/search/label/Indian%20Air%20force 17/27
11/23/2015 Life of Soldiers: Indian Air force
communication equipment, spare and repair parts; tools and test equipment, support equipment, repair and
return support, this amount of weapons are enough to knock out and front line offensive forces, can also support
the Indian Army's offensive forces to achieve the object.

CH 47
As per the initial contract, IAF Selected the CH 47 F, which is the most advanced variant available for export,
however later years, some of the CH 47 units modernized with most complicated sensor suites and inflight
refueling capability to extend the range,  the MH 47 G also designed with low observable characteristics, the
American using very low numbers of MH 47 G varients, which are used by the JSOC command only, America never
exported the MH 47 G to other countries, however still now no clear information about which variant of Chinook,
IAF is going to acquire, mostly IAF gets the CH 47 F with some modifications.

The IAF Plans to buy some 15 Chinooks as initial batch, four more later. the CH 47 F can carry or slug upto 12
tons of load, with the maximum speed of 300 kilometers per hour, it can fly as much as some 18,000 feet height,
the Chinook can conduct missions at some 350 kilometers from base and rteurn back to the base with reserve fuel,
It can be deployed from forward operating bases too, however the US Army' MH 47 G only has the refueling
capability, no others has such capability.

IAF selected the CH 47 for many reasons include it's maneuvering capability to fly low and narrow ways in
between hills to remain undetected, IAF mainly selected the Chinooks to transport heavy armaments close to
border positions which was inaccessible by the roads, IAF also plans to use the CH 47 to carry materials to
construct roads and bridges close to borders, the Heavy lifter Mi 26 can carry 20 tons of payload however it can't
perform multi role missions like Chinook,

It reported some media sources quoted anonymous sources, Boeing will complete the delivery of both AH 64 and
CH 47 within next 36 months.

Spyder Anti Missile System

Spyder Anti Missile System

http://sajeevpearlj.blogspot.in/search/label/Indian%20Air%20force 18/27
11/23/2015 Life of Soldiers: Indian Air force

Surface launched python and derby missile is known as Spyder, python is a infrared guided heat seeking missile,
where derby is an radar guided BVR missile, both missiles can lock the target before or after launching the Missiles,
simply known as lock on after/before launch, these missiles are the derivatives of Fighter launched Python and
Derby, both Python and Derby is fire and forget missiles, that can be launched in ripple fire mode to intercept large
number of hostile flying objects, two version of Spyder is available, one is the SR version, having a four cell launcher
vehicle with a EL/M 2016 ATAR 3D AESA Radar, and the MR version comes with eight cell launcher with much
powerful EL/M-2084 MMR 3D AESA radar. while all of them have same limited range of upto 25 km only.

With the increasing threats from Chinese and Pakistani long range cruise missiles, IAF has a challenge to secure
it's air bases from enemy low flying cruise missiles, and heavy bombs, at that time IAF has no real fire and forget
quick reaction SAM batteries which is also capable to shoot very low flying loitering UAV's and low flying cruise
missiles, Air force planned to buy a SAM system which can detect and shoot such low flying threats, and floated a
RFI in early 2000, and many foreign countries like West, US, Israel and Russia offered their advanced systems, after
effective field trails, IAF impressed with the Israeli Spyder's performance. any how due to the leftist parties protest
the deal was stalled, and IAF has no other option than the Israeli offer, most of the Israeli offers are very handy to
the IAF, they allows the Indians to whatever they can do, they don't hesitate to supply the Spares and missiles when
India steps in a war.

After some years of delay, the Defense ministry finally signed the deal with the Israeli's. and within a year Israeli's
started delivering those missiles and launchers to IAF, as per the initial deal the IAF receives some 108 Spyder MR
Launching units, Radar's and command posts for some $260 millions, and the exact information about the missile
delivery is not available, it's believed IAF may bought some 1500 missiles, as 50-50 of Derby and Python, and many
open sources reported that India bought the MR SAM system, means the eight cell launcher, where the exact
information remains secret. and it's deployed area's also not available for public's. mostly they are somewhere in
eastern and western frontiers.

The IAF has ordered some 18 batteries, so it's means one Spyder web consists of six Spyder launchers plus a
single Radar and command posts. also Israeli's has no problems of using Indian made trucks for transporting,
currently IAF using the TATA trucks for Transporting those missiles and launchers, the IAF is so familiar with the
EL/M-2084 Multi Mission 3D AESA radar, and Israel allows India to reverse engineer the Radar to make a desi
version, the desi version is called as Arudhra, the MMR radar is not just a surveillance radar, it act as a weapon
locating radar, and fire control radar too, even those EL/M Radar systems guides the Israeli Air force fighter to
attack the exact location of hamas rocket launching positions, the known Iron dome uses the EL/M 2084 for
surveillance and fire control.

The Spyder missile system can capable to detect very low flying loitering targets, like UAV's and Cruise missiles,
the operational target engagement altitude is twenty meters to 9000 meters, where the typical cruise missile can

http://sajeevpearlj.blogspot.in/search/label/Indian%20Air%20force 19/27
11/23/2015 Life of Soldiers: Indian Air force
fly, the Spyder can shoot down both sub sonic and supersonic cruise missiles, interestingly the Spyder system can
work with both MR and SR versions, the Python and Derby missiles has the lock on after launch capability which
gives the missiles single shot confirm kill probability, the Spyder missiles can launched from the cell within five
seconds once the hair trigger pressed and the target was identified as hostile, interestingly the Spyder systems
comes with infrared search and track system too, even if the Radar was compromised the Spyder launcher unit can
launch the missile against threats, like how fighter air crafts switch off their radar and guide those missiles using
IRST,

The Missile system is highly network centric system, means even if enemy comes in large numbers with variety of
flying machines, the Spyder's MMR radar can mark each targets and ripple launch those missiles for high
probability kill in single shot, such scenario was tested only by the Americans as of now, by using standard missiles
to destroy Ballistic, Cruise and air craft targets with 100% kill probability, same can be done by the Spyder too,
except those ballistic missile, the spyder will engage the Ballistic missiles, however the small missile won't make
huge damage to the monster sized ballistic missiles,

Currently those missile defense systems are being used by Peru and  Singapore along with Indians, It's believed
that IAF already received all those ordered Spyder systems and all of them under operational.

Pakistan confirms Su 35 talks with Russia

Pakistan confirms Su 35 talks with Russia

http://sajeevpearlj.blogspot.in/search/label/Indian%20Air%20force 20/27
11/23/2015 Life of Soldiers: Indian Air force

Officials from Pakistan confirmed to IHS Janes that they were in talks with the Russian arms supplier
Rosoboronexport to sell unknown numbers of  Su 35 S fighters, the information was first leaked by the Russian
deputy foreign minister Sergi Ryankov that Russia and Islamabad in talks to supply Su 35 Multi role combat aircraft
to the Pakistani Air force, earlier many times Pakistani air force officials talks about the need of twin engine aircraft
to counter Indian Air force, the Pakistani officials didn't says about exact timeline of new fighters jets induction,
however it's believed they get modern twin engine fighters before 2020.

The Pakistani air force so far flying only single engine Fighters, which lacks combat radius, sortie rate and survival
probability, PAF has a Fleet of modern F 16 Blk 52 fighters, Chinese and Pakistani made JF 17, and older Mirage III
and some Russian origin Chinese modified MiG 21's dubbed as  F 7, and France almost stopped it's support to the
Mirage platforms, so they have to relies on the F 16 fighter jets, where they get offset and maintenance support
from Turkey, even if the US stopped the support,

As new generation comes, the PAF yet to matured to operate in a long range twin engine heavy fighters, as first
they sought the Chinese J 31 fifth generation fighters, the J 31 program is hits a road block after the first flight in
2012, there is no clear progress made in the J 31, while China continuously working on the J 20, as per Initial plans
the PAF intended to buy some two squadrons of FC 31, a degraded version of J 31 made by the Chinese, also the
Pakistani officials not interested in the Kilmov RD 93 Engines, so they have to move on some other platforms, after
many rounds of Talks the PAF Finally selects the Su 35 S Multi role fighter for it's future induction program.

The PAF has a sight of dominance in the Arabian Sea, where The Indian Navy and Air force always enjoy freedom
of Navigation, so far PAF has no real fighters that can bolster the Arabian sea, the F 16 lacks of Range and has no
Anti shipping missiles, meantime the JF 17 has such capabilities, JF 17 is capable to carry YJ 12 based Anti shipping
missile, however it's  lack of range and questions about it's sea skimming capability, So PAF need a good a good
fighter that can capable to launch proven Anti shipping missile from stand off  Ranges, the Su 35 S with Kh 35 is a
good option for them, and Russia can ready to sell those missiles to Pakistan if they were willing to pay the money.
which helps them to secure the Pakistani Ports from Indian Naval Attack in case of war,

As per Pakistani analysts, the PAF may get only one squadron of Su 35 S fighters with the Service availability rate
of  60% at any time, due to the maintenance issue and cost factors, It's hard to establish a data link between
Friendly fighter jets from PAF for situation awareness and co operation, so It's clear the PAF Su 35 may work stand
alone mode, a four finger formation of Su 35 fighter is a good show off against any modern Fighter jets, two set of
four finger is more enough to pose good deterrence in peacetime asymmetric warfare.

Meanwhile the Chinese and the Indonesians are the other customers of Su 35, where all of them will buy only
two or less squadrons, and Pakistan also gets the reservation, more over it's a good export opportunity for Russia,

http://sajeevpearlj.blogspot.in/search/label/Indian%20Air%20force 21/27
11/23/2015 Life of Soldiers: Indian Air force
all these orders would give some $5 billions, while each Su 35 costs some $60 millions, while Pakistan can get some
twenty Su 35 S fighters, missiles, offsite support, maintenance, and Spare parts for $1.5 billions, not a big money to
spend Pakistan in three years due.

Those Su 35 S surely pose an threat to Marginal IAF fighter aircraft's. where the current IAF Fighters can keep the
Pakistani Air force to keep their fighters in Hanger, the Sukhoi and MiG fleet can control the entire Pakistani
Airspace and destroy any PAF fighters if they tries to take off from the runway, if they gets the advanced Su 35 they
will never hesitate to confront the IAF fleet, due to it's long range combat radius and radar detecting capability, they
can easily pose a show off against Indian fleet at any time.

Pushing F 18 E/F under Make in India

Pushing F 18 E/F under Make in India

There is an Interesting poster found in the ongoing England's Defense and Security Equipment International

http://sajeevpearlj.blogspot.in/search/label/Indian%20Air%20force 22/27
11/23/2015 Life of Soldiers: Indian Air force
Exhibition, that Indian pavilion is showing the F 18 E/F Fighter Aircraft's in a make in India poster. unfortunately the
F 18 is lost in the MMRCA race, after Indian cancelled the MMRCA and moved with off shelf Purchase of Rafale
directly from France, there is huge cap of multi role air craft's and light combat aircraft in the IAF inventory, India
and US are more closer in military relationship,US is offering many kind of Fighter jets and Missile, and it's excepted
that US will once again push the IAF to buy F 18 super Hornets.

There is many possibilities of using the Super Hornets, Indian Navy is expected to buy those Naval based F 18 for
it's future EMAL aircraft carrier, Rafale M is the other best contender, however because of the EMAL technology
transfer US may force the Indians to buy the Super hornets, the Indian Navy's future carrier is currently in design
stage along with the support of US Navy's Future Carrier Development team, who already involved in the US Navy's
Gerald R Ford class carrier program, the first ship with the modern low cost powerful EMAL aircraft launching
system,

The Americans earlier offered the F 16 IN Block 60 Aircraft for multi role missions and offered the Scorpion for
Intelligent and reconnaissance mission, however IAF didn't even think about those platforms, they always strict
with the Rafale, as already mentioned all Indian Armed forces are under government control, so they can only
suggest the government to what exactly they need, The Government will take final decisions whether it's needed or
not, The same also happening in the MMRCA too, for operational missions IAF need some 126 plus Rafale's, and the
decision maker Indian government ordered just 36 Rafale, and they even didn't signed the last proposed Rafale
deal. It's on the government's hands, whether they will sign the deal or move away from the deal, no one knows
that.

The Indian Prime minister due a visit to America next week, where Modi will meet the US president Obama and
his democratic members along with US military decision makers, where he will discuss about the pending deals, the
IAF has scheduled to be operate many US made flying systems, however It's not signed since decades, the most
awaited Apache AH 64, Chinook CH 47 is such an example, also PM will discuss with the US military leaders about
the earlier offer of F 16 IN and assisting the Carrier building, PM will be accompanied with IAF and IN officials
during the US visit.

There is no doubt that F 18 is a best fighter Jet, a good alternative against the Rafale, in cost wise Rafale is double
money than the F 18, how ever the overall flying cost will be lesser in Rafale compared to F 18, simply Rafale is
higher procurement cost and lesser operating cost and F 18 is vice verse, as many suggested we can spare some
amounts to keep the F 18 running all time like how we maintaining the Su 30 fleet, and it's hard to put double
money in initial procurement,

The Rafale deal itself hits in the roadblock, with the governments proposal of offset clause and some other missile
integration issues, it's already missed many deadlines, and no clear signs about the deal, and it's bit confusion
mostly the Government will walk away from the deal. Inducting completely newer version of fighter jets makes
many problems in the IAF, new training new methods new controls and newer data links, the same will not needed
in Rafale since IAF so familiar with the french fighters,

The IAF itself asked the government many times to buy the EA 18 growler for dedicated electronic attack
capability, and It's good to see IAF operating one squadron of dedicated Jamming aircraft,  the F 18 comes with an
advanced AN/APG AESA radar, and the F 18 uses towed decoy to spoof long range radar guided missiles, such
technology is not available in Rafale, and Rafale fully depend on it's Spectra EW suite.

The Rafale is designed to fly very low level, used it's design techniques to penetrate enemy air defense and strike
deep inside the enemy's heart. the F 18 is primarily a multi role platform, who follows the AESA provided ground
mapping for low level penetration, who needed the Radar to keep scanning, which draws attentions of enemy radar
warning receivers.
It's clear that we should wait for a week to what the government is going to announce in Washington, whether it's
the Scorpion or F 16 or the F 18  or nothing.

Brahmos A missile Ready by April 2016

Brahmos A missile Ready by April 2016

Sources inside from Brahmos said that, they will carry out first maiden test launch of Brahmos A missile by
November, and with the induction date of next April, after completing three dummy Brahmos missiles and one
actual missile, all four will be fired from the Su 30 MKI aircraft, first three would be evaluate the launching altitude,
speed, fraction and aircraft stability, the final launch would be Brahmos in actual combat mode with warheads and

on board seekers, once all tests are successfully completed, HAL will starts works on the first phase of modifying Su
30 MKI fleet from IAF inventory.

The HAL has a Sukhoi facility in Nasik, where they did several structural modification in the Su 30 MKI fighter to
carry the 2.5 ton Brahmos missiles, the Brahmos will be carried on the Center line only, to stabilize the Aircraft
when flying and maneuvering, the Su 30 MKI is designed to carry only Air to air missiles in the center line, thus can
accommodate two air to air missile, however the Sukhoi can carry Kh 35 Anti ship missiles under the air in take
position, compare to the 500 kg Kh 35, the Brahmos A missile is five times weightier than the Kh 35. so HAL chooses
much harder center line to carry the heavier missile.

The First three tests completely evaluate the Fighters performance when carrying a much heavier missile, like it's
flying speed, maneuvering ability, cruise speed, take off issues and land back safely with the missile, HAL and
Brahmos corp already completed or nearing completion of wind tunnel model  tests to check problems and effect
of aerodynamic changes, and some reports mentioned that the first modified Su 30 MKI already delivered to
Brahmos corp for testing the missile,

Mainly the HAL is responsible for structural modification in the Su 30 MKI fighter jet, and Brahmos corp is
responsible for Missile modification, the actual Brahmos missile size is 8.4 meter, and the Su 30 MKI some 22
meters from tail to nose cone, so they need to Shorten the missile at first, which results reduced weight too, normal
variant of Brahmos weights some three tons, while the Air launched version slightly lower that is 2.5 tons.

HAL plans to transfer the second modified Su 30 MKI to Brahmos Corp before this month, where air launched
tests are scheduled in November, however there is some other checks and tests will be done in ground before
firing the missile in the air, if plans are successful, India will be the second country after France having air launched
Super Sonic cruise missile launch capability, The French using the Supersonic ASMP A missile for nuclear delivery
and using the Rafale for delivering the missile,

Once all such tests passed, HAL will continue works on the first batch of 42 Su 30 MKI fighters to launch the
Brahmos missile, such stand off Supersonic missile gives an upper edge to the IAF in the Asian sub continent,
means the IAF can strike enemy targets in deep behind the border, and so far there is no real decision taken to
modify the Brahmos missile to carry Nuclear warheads, and that plan is just a media speculations.

Brahmos CEO also mentioned about the ongoing project of Brahmos NG with the weight of just 1.5 tons able to
be carried in medium fighter jets like Mirage 2000 and MiG 29, also a good chance of increased number of Missiles
in front line warships and  adding the missile in smaller Ships like Missile corvette's and EEZ patrol vessels, the
project expected to be completed before 2019.

As of now there is three variant of Brahmos missiles under operational within the Armed forces, Block I variant
used for Anti shipping missions, Block II used for striking land targets from land based launchers, and the newer
Block III variant used to strike target situated in deep behind covers, the missile has steep dive capability which can
strike targets inside mountain caves too.

India and Russia starts drafting the Su 30 MKI upgrade Plan

India and Russia starts drafting the Su 30 MKI upgrade Plan

The Indian and Russian officials started drafting a proposed modernization plan of Indian fleet of Su 30 MKI and
the Russian Su 30 SM fighters, the  proposed modernized plan take off only after 2020, once the Indian Su 30 MKI
orders completed and the Russian orders of sixty Su 30 SM fighters, India and Russia both plans to upgrade the Su
30 into Super Standard, as of now India planned to operate some 272 Su 30, with 200+ units operational and
another 72 in orders, and the Russian's operating some 15 Su 30 SM and another 45 in orders.

The Modernization talks started in early 2012, and plans to start the works by 2015, because of some delays in the
process, like the cost over run and Radar selection, the upgrade cost estimated more than six billion dollars for the
Indian Su 30 MKI fleet, include new engines, radars and smaller structural changes, as India already working on the
structural modification, to carry large sized missiles, Russians also working on a suitable Radar which can perfectly
fit inside the radar dome.

The Su 30 Flankers primarily designed to provide air defense to the Russian air space, so the Flanker was
designed to carry large number of air to air missiles only, no Bombs or no other big sized stand off cruise missiles,
even the Su 30 series won't carry drop tanks, carrying drop tanks extensively reduces the air craft's
maneuverability, and makes the Fighter keep inside the Sub sonic speed, nowadays Supersonic drop tanks
developed and tested, however Russia never bothered about the extended Range since all Russian Aircraft's has
good combat radius. except the Mikoyan platforms.

So at first in MKI modernization, India made several structural changes  in the airframe to carry dumb bombs,
Stand off anti shipping missiles and stand off anti radiation missiles, those guided missiles would be fitted under
the belly only, thus makes several issues too, like problems in landing etc, that's the major reason of Indian Air
force's purchase of western aircraft's like Jaguar and Mirages in earlier days, as Russia too adopted adding air to
ground weaponry into the Flanker series and making as Multi role, Russia went for two versions one is the Su 30 SM
and the Su 35 S, both are considered as multi role air crafts.

India mainly wants the Su 30 MKI should fire an Brahmos missile, the missile poses a serious offensive power in
case of war, HAL already made some structural changes into the First two Su 30 MKI given by the IAF, they already
completed ground based trails, include landing vibration trails, and planning for a test launch of the missile by early
next year, It was earlier planned this year, once the Structural changes completed then HAL continuously work on
the other platforms, however there is no mention of transferring some 42 modified Su 30 MKI armed with Brahmos
to the SFC for Nuclear delivery, and it's hardly to be believed of Brahmos with Nuclear warheads.

The Engine issue is a major problem in the existing Su 30 MKI platform, even IAF thinks to adopt a western engine
during the upgrade program, and the Russian too offering modified AL 31 engines, however so far IAF didn't said
about the engine replacements as of now, because the Sukhoi Engine service center already running  in HAL
Koraput, and it shows that India may go for a advanced Russian engine based on the AL 31 or the more advanced
AL 117 engines who powering the Su 35 fighters.

Updated electronic warfare and Jamming system is one of the most important add on in the Su 30 upgrade,
currently two Russian Jammers participating in the upgrade process, one is the Russian KNIRTI developed SAP 518
and the KRET's Khibiny jamming and EW system, India already evaluated the SAP 518 and it's believed the first
batch of 42 structurally modified Indian flankers with Brahmos could carry the SAP 518 wingtip jammers, so far
from analysis made by foreign military watchers the KRET's Khibiny is the advanced Jamming system ever
developed by the Russians.

Radar is the another piece which also discussed in the modernization plan, the Russians offering the most
advanced Zhuk ME GaN based AESA Radar, however IAF asks about the Byelka Radar, which was developed for the
T 50 program, the Byelka developed from BARS Irbis E radar, which is more feasible option for the IAF,

The entire Su 30 MKI modernization program is expected to be completed in 2030, that's why IAF sticks the HAL
to stop the Production line once complete the 272 orders placed by IAF, It's expected that HAL completes the MKI
delivery by 2019.
