Universal Design for Learning (UDL): The technology tool I have selected for this lesson idea will support ALL
learners as it has a vast array of possibilities for students to choose from. They simply choose pictures to plug
into their movie, add voice over and video clips. They can choose to reflect on books from our school library
and books I have in the classroom for resource material if they would rather not gather their information
online. Principle I: Provide Multiple Means of Representation- the “What” of learning- the students will
provide written transcripts for the video or auditory clip they choose to include in their project. Principle II:
Provide Multiple Means of Expression- the “How” of learning- I can provide the students will keyboard
commands for mouse action, alternative keyboards for visually impaired students, and customize overlays for
tough screens and keyboards.
Lesson idea implementation: As I address the standard for this lesson, the students will be asked to decide on
a historical figure from the state of Georgia they would like to write about. I will introduce the students to the
different resources they can use to create their movie. The students’ job is to pick a historical figure and write
interesting facts about that person. They will create a movie to share with their peers. I will introduce the
project by showing the students a few examples of videos that others have created from past years. I will be
careful not to share any names of the students who created the previous projects. This project will likely
stretch over two days as it is a new technology for my students to use. I will address student learning by the
content they add to their movie and how it is laid out. The students will present their movie to the class and I
will provide feedback to students based on their performance. One thing I could do to extend student
learning would be to invite a tour guide that works at one of the museums in our local area to speak to the
students.
I will conclude this lesson by summing up what the students shared about their chosen historical figure. As
the students share their movie, I will take note of some questions I could pose after all presentations are
completed. I could split the class into three groups that will compete for points by answering questions about
their peers’ presentations. This will also provide me a way of assessing what they learned. Students enjoy
learning from one another, so I feel this is a positive approach to seeing their progress.

MultiMedia Tools
Importance of technology: It is critical to use a multimedia authoring tool to create this project as I must keep
in line with my counties policies for safe internet research. The project could be completed without this
technology by having the students make a foldable or write a book report. However, I feel the technology will
be more fun and interactive for the students and allow their learning to be taken to a higher level of learning.
Without using the technology, it would not be possible to create the movie portion of this lesson.

Inspiration (optional
Internet Safety and Student Privacy: It is possible that a student could be working on this project at home
where the internet is not screened as it is at school. When doing so, they could come across inappropriate
material that does not follow the guidelines of the school with FERPA and CIPA. I could minimize these risks
by allowing them to only work on this project at school. In doing so, it might take several days to complete. In
having the students only work on this at school, it would ease the mind of the parents as they know we have
guarded our computers against any inappropriate material and covered all the safety procedures.
Reflective Practice: After designing this lesson idea, I feel the activities I created will impact student learning
by supporting technology and providing them with optional resources for their research. Since I created this
as an introductory activity to our historical figure unit, I could pick one of the projects or maybe even have the
students vote on which one that would like to have a guest come speak about. If it is a local historical figure, I
could ask a tour guide from one of the museums to come speak to the class and answer their questions.
