Der Bearbeiter des vorliegenden Werkes hat sich entschlosten, siimtliche hundert Etlden des Gredus ad Parnassum herauscugeben, einmal weil er die Oberzougung gewonnen hat, daB es richtig und vorteilhaft int, die Schiller in das ganze Werk Clementis einzufthren, dann aber auch, weil or es sonst ftir unmiglich Lilt, in der Aufnahme oder Auslassung von Etiiden die Winsche der Lehrer richtig zu treffen. Sicherlich werden auch die Lehror, denen das Studium des ganzen Werkes iiberfliissig scheint, zugestehen, daB os zwockmaBiger ist, die Etiiden sus ciner vollstindigen Ausgabe nach den individuellen Bedtirfnissen der Schiller selbst auszuwiiblen, als auf -eine fortige Auswahl angowicson mi sein, in wolcher dom Lehrer vielleicht nicht genug Stoff zu mannigfaltiger Abwechslung dargeboten ist, Der Bearbeiter sieht davon ab, die Grundsiitzo hier sm erdrtern, welche ihn geleitet haben, denn sie gehen aus der Verdffentlichung von selbst hervor und or tiberliBt sie dom Urteil seiner Kollegen, ohne sie im voraus zu verteidigon. Es ist nur sein Wunsch zu bekunden, da er den Originaltoxt von Clementi gewissenhaft respekticrt hat, indem auch die geringste Modifikation, die fiir den Schiiler vorteilhaft erscheinen kdnnte, besonders angemerkt ist, Was die Nummern 16. 17, 19, 22. 24, 47, 68. 92 anbetrifft, 90 sind aus Nitelichkeitsgriindon neben dem Original- text Uberall Varianten beigefiigt, um die Fingerfortigkeit der linken Hand besonders auszubilden. Den unverlindert gelassonen ‘Texton sind ahnliche Varianten beigegeben, dio der Lehrer beriicksichtigen oder ubergehen kann, wie es ihm beliebt. Der Bearbeiter wird allen dankbar sein, dio ihm Bosprochungen seines Werkes wollen zukommen lassen. The publisher of this work has decided to edit the hundred exercises of the Gradus ad Paressum, being convinced in tho first instance of the great advantage to pupils that are made acquainted with the entiro work of Clement's, which secondly offers a wide range of choice to the teachers. Surely even those masters that think studying the entire Gradus ad Parnassum superfluous, will acknowledge that it is a much better plan to make their choice according to the individual wants of each pupil than to be obliged to make use of a selection that does not offer such plentiful material to choose from. ‘Tho publisher abstains in this preface from discussing the principles that guided him, for they speak for themselves in his work and so he leaves them to be judged by his colleagues without defending them beforehand. Ho only desires to affirm that he has scrupulously respected the original text of Clementi’s, marking the very slightest modifications which appeared to him to be of advantage to pupils.
