39 STEPS

39 Steps (1915), by Scottish author John Buchan,is an espionage thriller and the first of five of
Buchan’s novels to feature the character Richard Hannay. Buchan’s novel takes readers on a
breathtaking series of exciting exploits featuring German villains that take place in May and June
of 1914. The Thirty-Nine Steps has been adapted for films including Alfred Hitchcock’s 1935

This story shows us the story of "Richard Hannay" a rich young man who lived in Africa but now
resides in London, then one day a strange American neighbor, tells him the plans that the Nazis
have to take Great Britain And kill the first Minister.

REACTION:

The argument is interesting, and it looks like there is a lot of action. But once the flight has
begun, the rhythm slows down, contradicting what might be expected. The absurd situations
happen, and the whole novel is full of innocence and naivety that are not appropriate for a spy
novel. Okay, we are in 1915, the genre was developing, the World War I had just started. But lacks
pace and especially addictive elements that encourage you to know the end of the novel. It is true
that near the end it becomes interesting again, but maybe not enough for my interests.
