THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CHLORINE LEVELS IN SWIMMING
POOL AND EYE IRRITATION COMPLAINTS ON THE USER OF SWIMMING POOL AT TIRTA KARTIKA (GAPERTA) SWIMMING POOL USER AT HELVETIA TENGAH SUB DISTRICT MEDAN HELVETIA DISTRICT IN 2018

Swimming pools use chlorination as a sanitation method to maintain the
swimming pool's water quantity. According to PERMENKES RI No. 32 of 2017 chlorine levels allowed in swimming pool water is (1-1.5) mg/L. As a disinfectant, the remaining chlorine in the provision of water is deliberately maintained. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between chlorine levels and eye irritation complaints in Tirta Kartika swimming pool users. This type of research was analytical observational with cross sectional design where the method of data collection was done at the same time to determine the relationship between chlorine levels and eye irritation complaints. The sampling was using accidental sampling technique. The populations in this study were all visitors of Tirta Kartika swimming pool for three months with an average value of 327 people while the sample was 76 people. Analysis of the data was presented in the form of univariate tables and bivariate tables using the chi- square test. The results of this study indicated that the average value of pool water chlorine levels was 2.30 mg / L, then the number of swimmers who experience eye irritation complaints as many as 78.9% or 60 people from 78 respondents and significant values of sig = 0.011 or <sig a 0 Therefore, there was a relationship between chlorine levels and eye irritation complaints in Tirta Kartika swimming pool users. It is suggested to provide training on swimming pool water management to pool staff, preferably in monitoring chlorine levels in swimming pool water. The Tirta Kartika swimming pool reconsidered the proper disinfection method.
