candidate cannot be intimated about his or her registration process.
Step 3: The following documents are mandatory for registration and
have to be produced on the payment date:

• Receipt/Student ID card of the previous course
• Course fee in cash or demand draft
• Goethe examination certificate of previous level is mandatory
(which should not be dated earlier than six months on the date
of registration).
5.2 For external candidates: Goethe examination certificate of previous

6. Course level assignment / Class size
6.1 Those who have prior knowledge of German or students with a gap
of more than six months from their last exam and desiring to join
the next higher level courses have to appear for a placement test
prior to registration. Placement in course levels is based on the
result of the placement test conducted by the Goethe-Institut
Chennai/Max Mueller Bhavan. This placement test will be conducted
between 16:00 to 17:00 hrs on the external exam dates. Email
registrations for the test should be done two days before the test
day. Fee for the placement test is ` 1,000/-. Fee for special
appointment for the placement test is ` 2,000/-.
6.2 Generally our courses have minimum 22 and at most 25 participants
for the levels A1 to B1 and minimum 15 and at most 25 participants
for the levels B2 to C2. In case of insufficient enrollment on the
starting date, the institute reserves the right to cancel or postpone
the course. In this case, participants will be offered the
opportunity to move to another course or will receive a full refund
of the course fee.
6.3 Enrolment certificates can be issued only after attending five days
of class for a fee of ` 500/-.
6.4 Participation certificates will be issued to candidates who have an
attendance of more than 75% for the enrolled course.
6.5 Internal students who do not take up the examination on the
prescribed date after the course completion, will be considered as
external candidates for exam registration on later dates.
7. Cancellations, refunds and change of batch
7.1 In case of cancellations five working days prior to the start of the
course, the course fee shall be refunded less an administrative fee
of ` 3,000/- per level.
7.2 In case of cancellation made in the last five working days before the
course starts, only 50% of the total course fee shall be refunded.
7.3 Cancellations must be submitted in writing with the original ID card
to the Language Department using the contact addresses indicated
in the registration card.
7.4 After the commencement of the course there is no possibility for a
refund or adjustment of fee, irrespective of whether the student has
attended any class or not.
7.5 Should the Goethe-Institut Chennai/Max Mueller Bhavan cancel a
course, the full course fee shall be reimbursed.
7.6 Change of batch is not possible once the registration is completed.
