TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN UNIVERSITY COLLEGE, Faculty of Build Environment Group Assignment — Value Management Analysis COURSE Bachelor of Construction Management and Economics (Hons) ACADEMIC YEAR 2018/19 CREDIT VALUE 3 SUBJECT CODE BTCM 3033, SUBJECT TITLE VALUE MANAGEMENT DUE DATE, WEEK 6(Until CREATIVE phase) — review only WEEK 8 - Complete submis Introduction Value Management (VM) is defined as a systematic, multi-disciplinary effort directed toward analyzing the functions of project for the purpose of achieving the best value at the lowest overall life cycle project cost. You are a VM team required to prepare a VM analysis on an existing high rise building. The building can either be completed, under construction or in the design stage. Learning outcome Upon completion of this assignment, students shall be able to: 1) Source and intepret technical information on a high rise structure. 2) Conduct an analysis using VM tools learnt, 3) Able to collect data and evaluate the outcome of the VM analysis 4) Able to analyse short case studies related to Value. Tasks (80 marks) 1. Prepare a VM report to include but not limied to: a. Brief description to existing building including location, size, number of floors, GFA/NFA b. Description in terms of Structure, Architecture and Mechanical and Electrical Works. ¢. Post-study Phase. 4. Each value management analysis MUST include a minimum of 2 Structural/ Architectural changes and 2 Mechanical and Electrical changes. EACH changes must show a minimum total amount of RMI million difference. For this exercise, the VM report shall only cover the following phases: Information Phase © Creative Phase Evaluation Phase Development Phase £, Conclusion of the VM analysis shall include the summary of the analysis AND lesson learnt from the exercise. 2. Upon submission of report, there will be a 30 minutes presentation and question and answer for verification and comprehension of the said report. Necessary graphical description of said buildings and proposals including schematics are required to complete the analysis 4, The appraisal of the project will be based on the completeness of the analysis and any additional information provided. 5. This is a group assignment, each group shall consist not more than 5 persons. 6. Assignment (include 20% presentation) will constitute 60% of total course work. Students must obtain a minimum of 50% for this assignment to be eligible for a pass in this (20 marks) Each student is to choose one of the SEVEN (7) given case studies. Analysis should cover the following headings: 1. Introduction (10%) 2. Analysis (60%) 3. Conclusion (15%) 4. Lesson Learnt (15%) Reminder This hand out is only a guideline, students shall responsible for organising their own resources to achieve the set requirements by given deadline. Students are also encouraged to ask any question pertaining to this topic during lectures ot tutorials if they have any doubt or ambiguity.
