Learning Outcome 2: Identities, Communities, and Inclusive Learning Contexts

Artifact Description and Rationale

Artifact Description

For Learning Outcome 2: Identities, Communities, and Inclusive Learning

Contexts, I thought it would be best to pull a group case study from Module 6 of C&T

807: Multicultural Education. According to the case study requirements, we read a

report published at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) about how Black

and Latino males can be academically successful in school. After reading the report, we

wrote a plan for how a school can develop a school-community partnership that focuses

on the academic intelligence and academic proficiency of Black and Latino males.

According to the C&T 807 M6 case study guidelines, our proposed program

should include “A discussion of why a program should be developed for boys of color

using readings for this lesson and should also provide an assessment of why educators

should support this innovative program, and what type of training will need to be offered

to teachers to support boys of color”.

Rationale
The learning outcome states: “Learning Outcome 2: Identities, Communities, and

Inclusive Learning Contexts. 1) Knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion; 2)

Understanding of the ways in which DEI issues, identity, and privilege influence

individuals and their experiences in schools and communities; and 3) Commitment to

practices that foster inclusive environments and learning opportunities in your context.” I

understand this outcome as understanding how to understand diversity and equity and

knowing how to create an inclusive environment by implementing inclusive practices.

As educators, we should provide opportunities for students to feel safe and

provide effective programs. This artifact pairs well with this learning outcome because

the objective of this case study is to create a school-community partnership that focuses

on the academic intelligence and academic proficiency of boys of color. The goal of the

artifact is to create and launch a program that bridges an opportunity for partnership

between our school and the community, as well as to secure a space to foster resilience

development by effectively launching a pilot program. Included in the artifact are

recommendations for teachers, schools, and the community.
