Self-Care Assignment
To reach my final goals for exercise and overall health for this week, I planned to
incorporate other forms of exercise and attempt some better forms of meal preparation prior to
my shifts at work. However, what I actually did was increase my time and endurance in the pool
by building up to 12 laps in the pool per day. I also was able to do some quick forms of meal
preparation for work with healthy alternatives, including protein, fruits, and vegetables. I believe
that what helped me follow my plan was maintaining accountability during the self-care blog and
also the desire to feel more energetic and healthier during both my days off from work and
during work. The obstacles that I faced this week was that there were multiple summer storms,
preventing outdoor exercise and it was just a busy week in general for me. I ended up spending
an entire day working on my PNAP binder, instead of preparing meals for the week or
exercising. The main areas that I would improve on next week is to find some recipes and
All in all, I actually think I made more progress towards my goals then I thought possible.
For the future, I intend to actually focus more on a gradual, continuous increase in my exercise
habits throughout the week. I also want to actually plan out meals and spend one day per week
just for meal preparation. I think there is definitely more room for improvement with my goals,
but this is at least a start. Overall, I am fairly satisfied with the improvements that I have made
towards self-care. In general, the reason that I believe I was somewhat successful in meeting my
goals is accountability in this self-care blog. I am an individual that has always responded
favorably towards accountability, so this has motivated me. These goals and successes in self-
care related towards empathy as a nurse in the ministry because I think a nurse who is satisfied
and healthy with her life in general will produce better outcomes in her care as a nurse.
