The Second Line ‘THE SECOND LINE Denny Says: Tris track's based on the New Orleans street beat’ known as the 2nd line, socalled because as the bands would march ‘Unrough the steets the dancers would fallin behind forming a ‘second line’. This is one of my favourite grooves to play on because of the loose, funky fee! of the drums and the bass patterns. Again, try not to play endless pirases... take some breaks (breaths) and work WITH the band, Werein the key of D here and although it's farly straight three-chord blues pay attention to the £769 chord (the V chore). As with all lues sequences, minor pentatonic (DF G A C) works here, especially if you add the sharp 9 note F). However, you could also use this chord as an opportunity to get some diminished tonality in there. Here's ‘what you do for the E7b9 chord, play an F diminished arpeggio (F Ab B 0). Its theoretically in the wrong key but youll find it ‘magically gives you all the altered” tones in the chord. Try it! Instant Robben Forc/Matt Schofield!
