For my project I created a resource manual for parents and anybody who is expecting a

child. The purpose of this resource manual is to provide and help parents understand what is

taking place in their child’s brain and body during each milestone so that they can provide the

necessary support, encouragement, interventions, and structure to allow their child to progress

through each stage as smoothly and successfully as possible. Children go through distinct periods

of development as they grow from infants to young adults. Multiple changes throughout the

development stages are taking place in the brain. Ages and stages is a term to outline significant

periods in the human development timeline. Throughout each stage, development and growth are

occurring. Children develop skills in these four main areas of development, which include fine

and gross motor skills, intellectual skills, language skills, and social-emotional skills. How your

child plays, speaks, acts, moves, etc. are all-important clues about your child’s development.

Developmental milestones are things most children can do by a certain age. It is so important for

a parent to know if your child is reaching certain milestones by certain ages. With being a first

time parent, it can be difficult not knowing what milestones to look out for since it is your first

newborn. So I really hope that this resource manual can be a guide to anybody who needs to

know what to look out for in the developmental stages for their child. As a parent, you know

your child the best. If your child is not meeting certain milestones by his or her age or if you are

concerned, it is important to talk with your child’s doctor about your concerns. If your child has

a developmental delay, it is important to get help as soon as possible. This resource manual is so

important to anybody who wants to help their child reach their milestones successfully.

I think this project will really be used. I spent a lot of time gathering all the information

for this project and I really think it be so beneficial. I don’t think there is anything I would do

differently or I would have to create this over again. I think my resource manual is

straightforward and easy to follow along. Like I mentioned this was a resource manual I created.

I thought this project was so beneficial to Jacob’s Ladder because it really identifies the

milestones that your child should be achieving at certain ages. Each child is different and may

learn differently or achieve a milestone at a different age than another child. However, looking

out for those milestones are so important. Your child is constantly growing and learning and it is

so fun to watch your child grow and learn and achieve their milestones along the way.

Sometimes I work in the nursery and while working on this project, I have seen so many

milestones that the children have mastered every day and continue to do. Even something so

simple, like picking up a toy and throwing it, or even playing and interacting with other children

is so fun to watch because they are reaching those milestones each and everyday. The children in

the nursery are gaining more and more skills by being social with other children and learning

from them too. It has been a joy being able to see these milestones in children that I get to work

with and also be apart of creating this resource manual for others. Even creating this, I have

learned so much so that when I become a mother one day; I will be prepared and educated on

what to expect for each milestone and age so that way my child can be on the right track.

Mastering these early childhood milestones can help in their future as they continue to grow

those skills and use them every day.
