I absolutely love food, and really enjoy cooking, so I decided to leave school when I was sixteen

and train to be a chef, I thought it would be creative and fun, but in reality my job is totally
different.

A lot of the work I do isn’t creative at all, just very repetitive, I have to work antisocial hours and
my feet and legs get tired after standing for ten hours a day, the kitchen is usually hot and always
crowded, you have to work really closely with the other chefs, if you’re late or make a mistake, it
can cause problems for them too, so you have pressure from your team, from the head chef and
of course from the customers who complain if they don’t like their food, it can be really stressful, I
worked really long hours but I don’t get paid very much, sometimes I think about giving it up and
going and getting a nine to five job in an office somewhere, but then I remember the good stuff,
the satisfaction of making a dish perfectly, the (bust) of working in a busy kitchen, the fun I have
with the other chefs, and I don’t want to give that up, I want to open my own restaurant one day
and be my own boss.
