Fewer than 100 thousand cases per year (India)

Treatment can help, but this condition can't be cured

Lab tests or imaging often required

Medium-term: resolves within months

The condition may be triggered by an acute bacterial or viral infection.


Symptoms start as weakness and tingling in the feet and legs that spread
to the upper body. Paralysis can occur.
Special blood treatments (plasma exchange and immunoglobulin therapy)
can relieve symptoms. Physiotherapy is required.

Pain areas: in the muscles
Muscular: abnormality walking, muscle weakness, problems with
coordination, or weakness of the arms and legs
Whole body: fatigue or feeling faint
Sensory: reduced sensation of touch or uncomfortable tingling and
burning
Facial: drooping of upper eyelid or muscle weakness
Also common: abnormal heart rhythm, difficulty raising the foot, difficulty
swallowing, impaired voice, shortness of breath, slow reflexes, or urinary
retention
